jj2 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I am looking at buying a 2001 triton tr20 with a 200 merc efi I can get the boat for $8800 the boat is in really good shape except for the carpet it has several tears along the edges and around the compartments its not wore that bad just tore but the price includes new carpet. The motor looks good as far as finish the prop is not chewed up and the skeg only has normal paint wear the guy at the dealership said it had good compression and run out good. He said he would do the compression test agin with me there to see it when I go back to lake test it. Does this sound like a good deal and is there anything else I need to check out ? Quote
Osprey39 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 NADA lists the low retail value on that boat at $11,640 but that is based on the boat having a 225hp motor. Since the one you're looking at only has a 200hp, it's value is going to be less. It sounds like the price is very good if everything is in working order. I'd try to get my own mechanic to check it out if I were you and get them to let you take it out on the water or at the very least take you out in it. If they are reluctant to do that, there may be a reason why. Quote

I looked up a 2000 triton tr20 that was priced with a 200 merc efi on nada the base price was $10,600 but figured with the extras the boat has it had a low value of $13,605 and a average of $15,465 and they said they would redo the compression test while I was there and insisted that I lake test it and they give a thirty day warrenty Quote

Sounds like you have a deal there if they are insisting you lake test it. Good luck bud! Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 22, 2010 Super User Posted November 22, 2010 It sounds like it is a really good deal. That makes me wonder why they are willing to sell it that low and throw in new carpet. If I were buying it with winter coming on, I keep a deal braker until almost done with the trading then I spring a longer warranty on them. Them giving you longer warranty won't cost them anything if the motor is in good shape. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 28, 2010 Super User Posted November 28, 2010 There are some fantastic bass boat deals out there as people are selling their boats in this economy. From what you said you may have a great purchase opportunity. As stated above, have your mechanic check out the motor compression and the entire craft to make sure it is in good condition. You can do a visual scan under the hull to look for any tell tale signs of the boat hitting something. As for the carpet, no big deal. I would suggest new carpet, anyway. Good luck and let us know if you purchase the boat and how it runs. I think you will be very pleased with the watercraft as it is a Triton! Quote
scbassin Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 If I remember right the Merc 200 efi was a big time gas hog. I am not sure now but maybe someone will chime in on that point. Quote
SeanW Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I had a Merc 200 EFI on my last boat. I loved the motor, it was very fast and dependable. If you drove at WOT all the time then she was very thirsty. If you dont its not so bad. That said, the newer DFI motors are much better on fuel. Quote
Dam Yankee Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Second that. I have one on a 1999 TR-20. Quote
TBendBassin Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 my buddy has a tr18 and it walks pretty bad but other than that its a nice boat Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted December 5, 2010 Super User Posted December 5, 2010 I would take a look at the chine walk video in this forum before buying. Quote
Lcomfort Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Tritons Chine walk thats just how it is you can help it with tuning but you cant stop it.. All there hulls do it some worse then others but ive never drove one that didnt do it. Quote
backseatk Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 its a fast, fuel drinkin, chinwalking sob. you will have to learn how to drive that boat if you want the speed. Quote
Triton21 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I have fished or owned every bass boat on the market. I presently own a TR21XDC with a 225 OPTI and love it. It is the driest ride I have ever been in. Yes It will chine walk but with a little practice you can drive through it. My best friend had a TR 19 with a 175 that I loved. I was going to buy a 19 until dealer made me an offer on my 21 I could not refuse. I am very happy with it. Kelley Quote
