Msl819 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I have a nice 7’ MH SC Legend Elite spinning rod that I find myself leaving behind. It gets overlooked mostly because at MH I tend reach for a casting set up instead. My question is what would you use this rod for and why? Are there some great applications for this rod that I am missing? 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted November 18, 2022 Super User Posted November 18, 2022 Not knowing the action of the rod, more importantly the tip, it is not out of the question for a weightless or nose weighted Senko. I use a MH spinning rod for that application. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted November 18, 2022 Super User Posted November 18, 2022 I can't skip worth a darn with casting gear...so I have a MH/F spinning rig for that 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted November 18, 2022 Super User Posted November 18, 2022 I rarely carry a spinning rod and I REALLY struggle to convince myself to carry a MH for the same reasons as you. Anything I want a MH for I will throw a baitcaster. If I'm carrying a spinning rod, its for a ned, dropshot, or similar light rig and a ML is more than enough. If you really want to find a use, I imagine it would be a good jerkbait rod (I know AJay prefers spinning for that). If you have baitfish busting surface fish I'm sure you could make a real bomb caster with some lighter braid and a big topwater. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 18, 2022 Super User Posted November 18, 2022 So I have an older 7' MH St. Croix Avid casting and a 6'8'' MH Avid Spinning. The choice use to be simple for me, when it's windy, I use the spinning setup and for rest of the time I'm using casting gear. I would throw pretty much the same thing on both with the exception of wacky rigged senkos and jigs. I would use spinning gear for the senkos and casting gear for jigs. 1 Quote
zell_pop1 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I know people that prefer all spinning and while I hate spinning reels myself I do use spinning for skipping docks and have thought about going back to it for dragging jigs around. Now the obvious use for you is throwing lightweight finesse stuff into heavy cover. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted November 18, 2022 Super User Posted November 18, 2022 Sell it and buy a rod you do use. Tom 4 Quote
PressuredFishing Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Open water long casting heavier lures deeper water wind? 1 Quote
JMac603 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I use a 6'6" MH St. Croix Avid for heavier tube jigs. I like the 6'6" length for pop jerking the tube across the bottom. 1 Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I have a M/H spinning rod for skipping and casting into heavy wind. 1 Quote
a1712 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I use my MH Spinning Rod on lakes where it is difficult, or nearly impossible, to throw a baitcaster. I have a few bank fishing reservoirs where the tree cover is such that it's near impossible to have a backcast. Brian. 2 Quote

aceman387 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I have the same exact rod and I use it for 1/4 oz jigs,Texas rigs with no problems. 1 Quote

OP, my nicest rod is a 6'6" MHF spinning rod. An original Cielo. Like others, I'd rather use a baitcast for any weight I'd use on the Cielo. However, I won't sell it. There is bound to come a day when I'll be glad I didn't. Probably for reasons already mentioned. 1 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 I just don't understand why people drag T-rigged worms around with a casting rod if they have a spinning rod in the boat. 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted November 19, 2022 Super User Posted November 19, 2022 Nice rod. Small jigs, tubes, hula grubs, light Carolina rigs, Senkos, under spins, on and on......, Quote
KP Duty Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 I like throwing t-rigged worms/creatures and mag shakey heads on my MH spinning rod(s). 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 19, 2022 Super User Posted November 19, 2022 I use M & MH spinning gear in the winter months or when I know winds will be 15+ mph. Quote
