I'm a cat guy. I catch alot of hell about it from buddies at work but its just the way it is. That said I've got nothing against a dog as long as it's well behaved..but I've got no time for aggressive dogs. Most of the time its not the dogs fault honestly...usually comes from crappy owners.

We really struggle with dogs.

struggle to keep them entertained, struggle to get the blankets out from under them in bed, struggle to find enough space on the couch for our own butts, etc.  Dogs are a struggle.

She's Lil because her Mom is original Ethel Mae. Lil Ethel Mae was 7 weeks old when I took that picture. I just happened to get up to go to the bathroom so I checked up on the Pups and she was snuggling with her Mom. Brian.

This is my girl Missy. She's my 4th Springer since 1985, a heck of a hunter, and a doll inside the house.

Count me in?I grew up with Doberman’s (4) including 1 that was especially bonded to me and my parents fostered a Irish setter also for about a year. Always had cats also growing up. My wife and I are on our 3rd German Shepard or mix of German Shepard, with these 2 being our latest. Wife loves Shepard’s, they share the house with the 2 cats my in-laws adopted for my kids  many years ago. My wife found a really great organization that our current 2 kids were adopted from.

Sore subject around here.  I am a dog person, so is my wife.  By no fault of our own, thanks to our daughter we have 3 indoor cats.  Since we have been in our house here in Virginia for 30 years, we have had 2 dogs.  Both Weimaraners and they were back to back.  Each living 13-16 years.  We put our last Weimaraner down about 6 months ago and when the wife started hinting at getting another dog, I put the brakes on it.  3 cats and a dog are just too many animals in the house for me.  Our first Weimaraner, Nero, was my dog by his choice.  He bonded with me and I have no doubt he would have given his life if I asked him to.  He was a great dog, we connected on a cerebral level and he was a fearless protector of house and family.  The second Weimaraner, Cobey, was bonded to my wife by design because we got him to watch over her and the house since I was on the road so much. He was 110lbs.  Both were trained by the methods outlined in books by The Monks of New Skeet.  My dogs were better behaved than most peoples kids.  Cobey was a Blue Weimaraner, Nero was the standard color.

I’ve got a 12 year old chocolate lab that won’t eat and her hips aren’t working too good. I’ve been blending eggs , my stash of walleye and soft canned dog food to squirt in between her back teeth with a big syringe . I don’t think she’s going to make it through the winter.

Sad to hear. I've got an old girl (GSP) that age myself who was retired from the field due to weakness in her back legs. You may want to ask your vet about chewable Rimadyl tablets (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever)  to keep her more comfortable.

Just went through this last February with my 13 year old Springer, Hazel. She fell apart in less than two weeks time. CBD treats were a big help for her.

@Mike L everybody’s dogs are awesome looking but the Great Dane in that photo is very regal looking. After my parents lost the last Doberman I grew up with they moved on to Great Danes, my dad currently has 2 both rescues. Although I see you reside in Florida I’m wondering if you are/were a Chicago Bears fan? At very least between 1965-1973.

He’s 3rd Dane we’ve owed over the years and he’s not the biggest!

We had a black (Zeus) that pushed 150!

People get intimidated by their size, but once they get past that they soon realize they’re the best friend you could want for a lot reasons, which I’m sure your dad knows.

Born and raised on the South Side and been a Bears fan since.
I know, I know… Just don’t sleep on them going forward.

@Mike L wow 150 lbs is a healthy boy? My parents had one “Jake” which I believe was right around the same size. He was a harlequin who’s bark used to shake the walls ?. My brothers and sister and myself  never worried about anyone trying to be stupid enough to break into their house when they had him, even though they’re usually sweet once you got into the house. The Doberman’s on the other hand wouldn’t make a sound until you stepped into the house. And you better pray they knew you belonged. When I was young my neighbor and I would purposely hit the wiffle ball over the fence and make our other neighbor go get it while my boy (Doberman) was watching, he never moved until our neighbor would go to hop the fence then he’d bark like mad at him all while his nubbin tail would be wagging like crazy? He would never think to bite him but man he loved scaring the ?out of him. Reflecting on it now it was very childish but d**n it was funny watching my neighbor’s reaction? And yeah don’t sleep on our Bears as it looks like the pieces might have finally been put into place for a future team?

Yes, I’m a dog person as is my family. Our first dog was Wizard, a 38 pound, smooth Standard Dachshund. My wife ran a dog rescue for over 10 years and our two dogs (also rescues) were foster parents to over 90 puppies and other dogs during their lifetimes. Currently, we babysit the grand doggies, an English Cream and a Miniature Goldendoodle.

While I don’t begrudge anyone from taking their canine friends on the boat, it just never clicked with me.  I have 8-10 rigged rods on the front deck all with the possibility of skewering a paw.  I also fish sunup to sundown and now have to deal with bathroom breaks, blazing sun, rough water and a myriad of other not dog friendly situations.  I did take my first Weimaraner every time I wade fished and he loved it.  He could scale the steepest cliffs and swim the strongest currents but I would never have dreampt to take him on the boat.
