JeffD Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Any "tips" on wrapping the tip top? Although it gets harder wrapping guides as you go towards the tip, Injust can't figure out what the best way to wrap the tip is. It's only supported on one side of it and not very stable. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Super User MickD Posted November 17, 2022 Super User Posted November 17, 2022 Yes, it can get tricky. One thing to consider is that it doesn't really have to be wrapped. But yes, it does look better. Put your last support as close to the tiptop as you can and still have room to work and have the next one close also. Another builder has cobbled a support-I'll see if I can find it. This video shows a tool you might consider, or cobble something similar. It shows the principal involved with the close supports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpmNA59iaQU Quote

KCFinesse Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 I cheat. I usually keep my tip wrap really small and bobbin wrap to the base of the tip only. Any extra strength added is just from the finish bridging the wrap to the tube. I'll keep it one color, and really only do enough to lock the thread down and add a pull through (<12 wraps). Much more than that and it's not reasonable to pack neatly or use a bobbin. It's almost like a nail knot trim band, but I usually find using that method a bit fiddley... -Jared Quote

It's done without stressing/bending the rod, can be done a ways off the tube of the tiptop then slid into position and tightened. Worth a try. Quote
