LazyBASS1301600404 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Is the repair hard or easy? It also smokes in that area.. Ive got quoted $250-$600. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I replaced the impeller and housing on my boat very easily the first time I tried it. I consider myself very handy with tools and my hands though. I would suggest checking out the posts on iboats.com forum for advice on your particular motor and watch some videos on youtube.com. Quote
piscicidal Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 It's easy....$600 to do that job is highway robbery. There are several youtube videos showing exactly how to do it. Just take care when removing the lower unit...it can be a little sticky. Also pay attention to the direction the impeller blades are formed within the cyclinder, and make sure you put the new impeller in the same way. Quote
fishn hard Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I did my buddy's 60 horse merc 2007 and let me tell you never again that shift rod is a ***** to get that cotter pin back in i finally had to pull the carbs so if i had to do it again i would charge a couple hundred bucks to do it > Quote
GLADES Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I guess it depends on the age, brand and size of the motor. Sometimes the bolts are corroded and break. I tried to change one on a 1979 140 Evinrude and I could not get the shift lever to disengage. I ended up bringing the partially disassembled motor to the repair shop. On my current boat, it has a Mercury 150 and it is really easy. It came apart and went back together with little trouble. Make sure the impeller blade is slightly lubed and the blades are installed bent in the direction that it came apart. Quote

Yep those V6 mercs are a walk in the park I don't know why they didn't keep that setup on all there motors Quote
