JeffD Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 How far off the guide foot do you start your wrap? Is it just personal preference or is there a functional reason? Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 I make them as light as I can, 3 - 4 wraps from the guide tip. There is a certain amount of intrinsic power in a blank. you can use that power and sensitivity to throw your offering further and crisper or flail a bunch of additional guide and wrap weight and decrease your rod's balance, it's your choice, you're building the rod you want after all. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted November 11, 2022 Super User Posted November 11, 2022 As stated, as short as possible, and avoid "football" epoxy. The lighter the weight of the guides/wraps the faster the recovery speed of the rod making it feel more sensitive, crisper. It is measurable and it affects the lighter power/faster action blanks the most. My wraps for Fuji KT micro guides are probably no longer than about a quarter of an inch. Start them just a few wraps of "A" thread off the foot. There is no functional advantage to making them longer. Quote
