1984isNOW Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I've never fished with a loomis, passed on a used E6x about half price because of the mixed reviews. But the multi taper technology looks like the real muthafudgin deal. On paper sounds logical, video demo dude tied to a chair to show taper looked legit, but in practical application does it make a difference? It looks like the best thing to hit fishing since reels got cranking handles. On top of that, the mag bass rods (MBR) seem to inherently have that taper by description- so do other companies that tout an MBR actually have a multi tapered blank to produce that taper or am i mistaken? I guess what exactly does MBR fish like to you? Kinda makin me rethink the E6x just so I can feel a loomis. Any insight is appreciated! Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted November 8, 2022 Super User Posted November 8, 2022 Something else to help sell product. A true "multi taper" would just be a concentrated stress riser waiting for a warranty replacement. Quote
Reel Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I've got 5 or 6 rods with Multi-taper : Ex6, IMX, GLX etc. with some that are almost 10 years old and that have been wonderful performers. Quote

If you really want to try the feel of a Loomis you need to step up to the IMX Pro or higher. The E6x is a poor example of the Loomis line, very mediocre. 8 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 8, 2022 Super User Posted November 8, 2022 I would pass on the EX6. Some guys like them but to me it doesn't feel like a Loomis rod. I have several that are from the MBR series. One (783c GLX) is about 15 years old and is still as good as the day I bought it. I don't think of the MBR rods as multi taper though. They do transition differently than say a comparable St. Croix Fast rod. If you want true multi taper rods, you should look at Megabass. I have a few from that can pretty much fish any lure well. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 8, 2022 Super User Posted November 8, 2022 St. Croix has had IPC for a couple of decades. I've got a pile of them and they work fine. Quote
waymont Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I would start with the IMX-Pro line MBR version (843 or 844) depending on how heavy of lures you want to throw. The 844 is my favorite 1/2oz jig rod casting and skipping. They are incredibly versatile rods. I either fish JWR or MBR rods, and the MBR can do it all. The JWR I like for jigs, swimjigs, chatter baits, t-rigs, spinnerbaits. Quote
padon Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 as others have said you cant 'feel a loomis' with an e6x or even a gcx. their are way better rods in that price range. you need to go to the imx pro or higher series. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 8, 2022 Super User Posted November 8, 2022 NRX / MBR-JWR tech is over 10 years now and changed rod action at that time. Today rod makers all have lighter weight stronger rods available. ALX and St Croix offer rods that are equal at lower price with excellent customer service. Tom PS, E6X was a entry level rod with poor performance. Quote
Hulkster Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I have the IMX Pro MBR 903C that I upgraded from a 2015 model E6X and the difference is massive. that being said, the 2018 model E6X (they were redesigned that year) are a lot better than the first generation. I have a 2018 JWR 892S and its an awesome rod. So even a GCX Model MBR 843 would be a great rod, as I believe the GCX's are the same 2018 E6X blanks just with different guides?? 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 This is the same thing as each reel manufacturer coming up with a catchy name for a bearing supported pinion gear. Something Daiwa did matter of factly decades ago. 1 Quote

1984isNOW Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 Thanks for all the input @yall So what exactly makes a mag bass rod mag bass - it appears to be a softerorslower poweroraction than a "typical" (not standard by industry means, but commonly experienced by the users) rod with similar power and action. I've tried finding a clearly explained difference anywhere but haven't found anything. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 9, 2022 Super User Posted November 9, 2022 Magnum taper has a heavier butt and mid section. Quote

The three I had were the old Legend Tournament Bass casting rods, haven't checked out the new series yet. My Legend Tournament Walleye spinning rod is killer though, a favorite of mine. Quote
