After using the reel for 4 years once every two months for trout, the pfuger president xt 25 I own finally failed, in the least likley spot, the drag clicker...... reached out to customer service which was 0/10 and pretty much wanted to charge double of what Mike here at dvt would in a copy paste response. Crazy that a part of the reel with 0 stress failed before anything else.... won't be buying pure fishing products in the foreseeable future, even more dissapointing that aliexpress fishing brands have better customer service than pure fishing..... glad I picked up a diawa tatula lt a few weeks previously, and can speak to their customer service. Anyways just thought I'd let any pfluger president owners be aware of this issue.

Back when we were kids, reels were supported by the maker for a couple of decades.

That's changed to 5 years today, making most tackle disposable - though my first run-in with Daiwa was the lack-of-parts support on a new-in-1978 Millionaire - that happened in 1985, and switched me to Lew's for the next two decades.  I was getting Lew's parts for older reels through c. 2000, and even when they discontinued support on older BB-1, Roy's in Corpus bought up the parts inventory.

Curious how the click-pawl failure affects function on your reel.

That's got me scratching my head too - AFAIK all it'd do is remove the clicking sound when line is pulled against the drag.

Ya, the Mitchell 320 I got in 1967 for my B-Day....I was still finding parts for it in the mid-late 80's locally at repair shops. Then I couldn't find something...hung onto it for a few more years, then finally tossed it in about 93. If I still had it, I could have found the part on the auction site or at least another one to use as parts.

You can still fish this one. Your drag won't make any noise. Otherwise I'd fish it.

Dont call customer service. Go to the Pure Fishing website and at the bottom of their website you will see a list of things including Warranty Information.

Click on that and another page will come up to where you then click on the brand and it will bring you to all the service centers in the usa. You are in california? there are 2 listed for you.

Yes you are all correct, I will use it with heavier line, but I have (true) 1.2lb (.070mm) line on this spool, so not knowing line is getting payed when fish are pulling is very important. I will still fish it though and use it with U.S 2lb line for panfish

more importantly whats actually wrong with it??

Just the drag not clicking when paying line, it sounds fussy but I have true 1.2lb line (.070mm) and it's very important to hear line being payed when a fish pulls. It will work fine when I put U.S 2lb line for panfish on it.

Yes I will try that! I pretty much got a copy paste response for their reel service plug, will try this!

That part itself looks fine. Are the spool washers installed correctly on the main shaft?

No never taken them apart, the drag clicker  piece broke, took it apart on the water and a little piece of the pot metal flaked out, fit perfectly the the clicker. One nice thing about diawas drag clicker is they don't use a click and paul!

I found Pure Fishing CS to be good until the Covid shutdown. They haven’t been the same since.

You can say that again.

My personal dislike is that they dumped all but one model of Pflueger casting reels.
