RippinLips2t Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 I’m really hoping someone can help me fix my brand new reel. I picked up a shimano sienna 2500 a while back, let it sit in my desk and today i decided to put it back on one of my rods. i made the mistake of running my line through the guides before under the wire, this is where i messed up. i thought “well instead of cutting my knot and starting over i took off one side of the bail and apparently it was the wrong one. (i know it was stupid) but now i have a long black plastic piece that came out from next to a spring. shimano doesn’t have a manual on their site, i have no receipts or packaging so i’m relying on someone’s know how. it’s too long to lay right across, when i insert it into the spring i can see or down in what looks like the only logical position the bail won’t trip down. help, anyone! 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 2, 2022 Super User Posted November 2, 2022 Next time just take off the spool, open the bail, replace the spool, close the bail. A-Jay 7 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted November 2, 2022 Super User Posted November 2, 2022 Take it back to the store you bought it - or if bought online, to a local store. They should have someone there who can put it back together properly. Also, as A-Jay said - that's the easiest/safest way to swap bail sides with the line. Quote
mrpao Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Go to the "parts" section of the shimano site and it should have a schematic for that reel. It will kind of give you an idea of how it should go in. Like mentioned above, you went the long route in adjusting your line position. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 All the schematic will do is confirm whether or not you lost any parts. It won’t help you reassemble the bail which is one of the biggest PIA jobs in reel maintenance. Getting everything in place and putting tension on without it moving is tricky. I can’t even begin to explain it without showing someone. I’ll put it together for you if you send it in or you can return it to Shimano. If you call and are straight with them they’ll very possibly do a fix as a courtesy. 3 Quote

I hear you there, Mike - I remember fully tearing down my old Mitchell 320...everything went back together fairly easy - except that &*()&(*&$@ bail...getting the spring to settle properly was the worst. Getting tension those old round springs is enough to make someone quit the biz. 1 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 3, 2022 Super User Posted November 3, 2022 reminds me of the time i made the decision to take off my waterproof hunting pants without taking off my boots (didnt want to stand on wet ground). my efforts to find a shortcut cause me a lot of "fun". i was like a trapped animal. the spool..next time, the spool. haha. i cannot envison the parst that must have sprung out of there!!! good luck. Yup. I'd did my son in law's President recently. Nearly identical bail spring mechanicals. Removing the bail wire completely was the trick to lining everything back up while under tension. Got it back together, but a real PIA. Explaining it without video would be difficult. 1 Quote
