It seems to me like it's more of a muscle/body/physics thing. While your shoulder is not actually rotating, right to left seems like an internal "rotation" versus left to right is more like external rotation. Altho that logic only works if you hold your fishing pole in your right hand. Any lefties want to chime in?

It depends whether I'm fishing with a right handed rod or left handed rod and the length of the rod. And then can change depending upon whether the reel is right handed or left handed.

 

Then I have to pull out my slide rule to figure it out.

um, from the title, i was looking more for - time of day to use one, or something like that... i used one for the first time last week. they're amazing --- they cast like rockets, land like a splat, and do this crazy movement. if i was a fish, and into crazy movements, i'd hit it for sure, rightie or leftie....
