Tony Christian Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I usually fish a highland reservoir, but recently I found a shallow creek where I saw some bass blowing up on forage. I also saw a lot of frogs there, so I want to buy some topwater frogs. Are there a few frogs that can cover all of the boards for me under $25? The bass are northern bass, so smaller frogs will work better. 1 Quote
QED Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 For small frogs, the Booyah Pad Crasher Jr works fine for me and are relatively inexpensive. The small SPRO Poppin' Frog 40s also work well. 3 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 The best one for me is the original Scum Frog. Inexpensive, and works well. 3 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 Scum Frog Trophy Series, Jackall Gavacho, and the Megabass Big Gabot. Also any frog bait from Teckel. Three colors should cover it.... white, black and something natural with a chartreuse belly. 1 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 I’m partial to Booyah Pad Crashers. They have the standard, the popping version, a Jr version, and a popping Jr version. What they lack in durability is made up for by their collapsibility and price. 2 Quote
Rockytop Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I agree with the other guys on here about the Booyah pad crasher Jr. and the SPRO if you want a floating frog but I catch a lot of fish with a black Zoom horny toad in the creeks and small rivers that I fish. If there are small mouth you can't hardly reel it fast enough a lot of times and if they miss just let it fall and they'll usually pick it up. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 28, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2022 Booyah makes the best bang for your buck frog IMO. 1 Quote

Luke Barnes Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 100% Pad Crasher Jr. Can't say enough about the Booyah Pad Crashers. Also a different look but still similar is the Strike King Pad Perch Pipsqueak and the Poppin Perch, which I'm pretty sure has a pipsqueak size as well. 1 Quote
JackstrawIII Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 The little ZMan frog is my favorite. Leap Frog I think it’s called. Quote
The Baron Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 The Live Target frogs look good, but my hookup ratio increased significantly when I switched to Booyah and Spro frogs. 1 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted October 31, 2022 Super User Posted October 31, 2022 You can spend as much as you want, but you won't find a more durable, effective frog than the Booyah Pad Crasher in my humble opinion. I also like the popping model. They're still around $7. I like a soft bodied frog when fishing on a mat. But the toads seem to me to work well if the vegetation is more sparse. Use a good, strong hook with them because you'll probably have to yank the fish out of cover. One of the cool things about the toad is if the fish misses you can kill it right there and it sinks. Or you can let it drop off the edge of the mat. Quote

IMNSHO they are garbage. I own a bunch of different frogs, but hardly ever throw anything other than a pad crasher or a trophy. Quote
Deephaven Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 Big fan of booyah and snagproof. As for size, my biggest fish on a frog in Northern MN have come on a frogzilla so don't think you need micro frogs to catch fish up North ... Quote

Giving anglers the high-dollar benefits of a premier topwater frog at an unbeatable price with gorgeous paint schemes, the Scum Frog Trophy Painted Series walks, skirts, and crawls over surface vegetation with ease and has an excellent hookup ratio! The heavier weight of these frogs make casting a breeze, allowing you to confidently cover more water and catch more bass. When it's trophy time, tie on a Scum Frog Trophy Painted Series Frog and get after those giants in the slop, pads, buggy whips, or anywhere they hide! Quote

Zcoker Posted November 1, 2022 Posted November 1, 2022 I favor the scum launch frog. I don't know how they do it but the thing never fills with water like most all other frogs do. I can launch it a country mile, walk it, do whatever. It's a very soft frog, velvety soft almost akin to a real frog. Yet that soft body is very durable. I've caught plenty of big fish on it upwards to 8lbs. Only thing is the red hooks tend to flex out on the larger fish when they are blasting away. And it doesn't appear like the hooks can be changed out easily like with other frogs. Other than that, a very good frog, imho. 1 Quote
