Triggx Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I’m new to fishing. I filleted a walleye. I didn’t see any worms in the meat. But I was curious and opened the stomach part and it was infested. Is the meat still safe to eat? Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 28, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2022 I can’t really see any worms, which part ya talking about? Quote
Super User gim Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 I'd cook the crap out of it if you still intend to eat it. Aint worth getting violently ill if you think it has parasites. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 Cooked parasites are 100% protein. 2 Quote

Yes, but if they aren't 100% cooked they will ruin you for a while. That's why I said to cook the crap out of it! I personally would not eat it, but to me its just the thought of my food containing parasites or worms or bacteria or whatever that would bother me. Quote

padlin Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I think once I had seen the worms in it I would not be able to eat it. 1 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 Although I am overly cautious, I have seen videos on both fresh and salt water fish filleted and had worms in the meat. It seems to be more prevalent in certain species but universally it’s not a concern. I’ve seen it in crappie. Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted October 28, 2022 Super User Posted October 28, 2022 If you eat lots of fish, don't worry you've already eaten lots of worms. 5 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 28, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2022 I still haven’t seen the worms Quote

I wouldn't eat wormy fish, but I'm not a big fan of fish in general so take that for what it's worth. Quote

Never heard of anything in the stomach and I guess the photo is just blurry on my end. I figured he mistook part of the fish intestines for worms 1 Quote

I’m no expert but I’ve never seen that before in other fish lol Thanks everyone for your opinions It was my first ever walleye, and I was excited to try it for the first time as well. But not if I’m going to get sick Quote
