I am looking at two outboards 25HP Electric Start 2011  and a 30 HP Pull Start 2010. Each are roughly the same price, they are Evinrude Etec.Is the 5 extra HP justitfy getting the pull start over the electric start? Is 5 HP going to make that much of a difference? Going on a 14' Crestliner.

30 hp, today's outboards start easily & plus no need to buy an extra battery or worry about maintaining said battery.

I have a 9.8 Tohatsu kicker on my boat to fish restricted horsepower lakes. Electric start was money well spent in my opinion. I had to have a third battery for pumps, electronics, and other accessories anyway. I don't know how many times the motor is started over the course of a long day on the water, but I have never regretted my decision.

I love my electric start. Especially on colder mornings or after the motor hasn't been started in a while.

To me, it's a no brainer.  I would not even consider the manual start.  Electric start all the way.

Both motor's have the same powerhead so there's going to very little difference in performance between the two.  That couple of mph the 30 might give will never be missed when it comes to the pleasure of being able to hit the button and go.

For me, electric start would be a must, and power tilt would be a second must.

Had a 9.9 pull start for many years and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Doesn't matter how easy they start, pulling a rope is a pain in the ***. Have a 15 electric start on my boat. The extra HP was good. The electric start was GREAT!!!

Had an older 25 Evinrude electric start. Best move I ever made. I don't think the 5 hp will make that big a difference.

I have to agree with all of them also you need to think about is when you get up in years your shoulders will get soar and then you have the back also. I fit in all those catagories, so I would say get the Electric start and the 5 extra horse power isn't worth putting my out of commitition for week or 2 just have little more HP.

I can the 30HP and add a starte kit to the engine. Runs about $575.00 is the 5 Extra HP worth go that route?

No, man up and get the Pull start, if the engine is well maintained and properly tuned, a pull start should not take more than a 3 or 4 pulls other than on a very cold morning, if that is the case hook up the rabbit ears before you leave and run it for 5 minutes so you want be pulling like a mule when on the water with a dead cold engine.
