Yes sir but I'd go 50 lb.

Most do, but I haven't found a need to. I don't have dig or abrasion issues with 40 and ya ain't breakin it pullin on a fish. 40 gives me a little better distance than 50, and all the power I could ever want. OMMV.

Rod length doesn't matter much to me, but handle length does. I like a rod with a little shorter butt section.

There are two common ways to pitch. One has the butt of the rod inside your arm pointing at your chest or armpit. The other has it outside your arm pointing at your elbow.

I use the inside the arm method, so I like a shorter rod butt so it doesn't hit you in the chest

Thank you for all the great replies, tips and ideas!

Sounds like I need to replace my line, step out on my deck steps and get to practicing!

I will say I watched a bunch of videos and I do believe I was going about it all wrong. Technique seems to be the biggest key here, and that's what I need to work on.

Thanks again

I'm excited!

I spent some time on my deck and could see immediate improvement.

I definitely got the feel down after just 10 minutes. I was slinging it like a frisbee before. Once I got the wrist down and the release point, it started coming together.

No where near great at it, maybe not even proficient...but enough to be dangerous.

A jig will work, but give the Rage Structure Bug a try, too.

I do like the Structure Bug but I'm a big fan of the Space Monkey. Similar bait and such, I've just caught some good one over the years; numbers too.

I also have some custom poured craws I'll put on a jighead/Nedhead

The Space Monkey is Big O's favorite bait. I fish it quite a bit, too.

Another great option.
