Gera Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Hello everyone, Has anyone installed Shimano extra large knobs on a Daiwa Steez?? love the reel but the nothing compares to Shimano US knobs. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 Bad enough putting a Daiwa reel on a Shimano rod (or the other way around)...but you want to mix parts on a reel? 1 Quote
Gera Posted October 26, 2022 Author Posted October 26, 2022 (edited) Yes Sr!!!! those knobs are amazing, and the brakes on the Steez work better for me than my Metanium's (maybe more expensive shimano reels are better than the steez, however I not allow myself to go higher than the Met) Edit: I have sometimes used my tatula elite on my Posion Adrena with jerkbaits.. fantastic combo. Super User bulldog1935 Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 Shimano A and Daiwa S knobs all interchange as long as you stack it right. Using Shimano knob on Daiwa spindle requires the "plastic collar" (bearing-size spacer/bushing) or you can also use an extra inboard 740ZZ bearing. I do the extra inboard BB on MH and H spinning reels with Daiwa handle and, e.g., Livre knob. If you tinkered this stuff as much as I do, you'd have bearings and shim washers, etc. to spare... This is a full handle swap, but the Studio Composite handle and knobs are lighter than the stock. 3 Quote
newapti5 Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Kidding aside, it's totally doable with some 0.1mm thick shims, some 4x7x2.5mm bearings, and some grease. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 27, 2022 Super User Posted October 27, 2022 Typically steez should have two bearings per knob, it’d be better to add another bearing but bushing works too but might require some shim. and yes it catches plenty of fish. Daiwa reel with Shimano knob on Shimano rod. Think out of the box. 1 Quote
Hulkster Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I thought interchanging Daiwa and Shimano parts would upset the space-time continuum irreparably? 3 Quote
Gera Posted October 27, 2022 Author Posted October 27, 2022 Thank you!, if its done before I can sure replicate it.. but is a real thing, once you get use to those knobs everything feels cheap and small.. I have been using Reel Grips Pro to give more body to my two Daiwa reels. I'm asking this because I'm thinking about getting a new one but I want to achieve that large knob feeling. Even my frog rod which uses a 13 Concept A2 has large knobs and feel "similar" and its much more conformable. 1 Quote
A kid from Canada Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Shimano knobs to Daiwa handle is easy with a bushing and 2 bearings, but I haven't been able to put Daiwa knobs on a Shimano handle (without there being a gap). Quote

If you want to be true to Daiwa, you can either get SLP power cork knob (not cheap) or just order full handle assembly for 2018 zillion HD direct from Daiwa USA (this way you get Eva knob plus 100mm handle) Quote
The Bassman Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I've done it with my Tat LT and Fuegos. For me it takes a bit of tinkering with shims and even identical bushings. I'm kinda OCD about tolerances, though. 1 Quote
Robman Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Get the slp works knobs they are comfortable Quote
