Super User Spankey Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 Heck of a sour note to be winding down my season. Getting treated for pneumonia and some type of Bronchitis. Hope by mid-week I’m ready to get out a few more times. Coughing, phlegm and shortness of breath sucks. Got a couple of river runt smallies the other day before the rains moved in. Tough bite, only bites on firetiger. But all the conditions were perfect for that pattern. A pattern I rarely throw these days. 4 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 I've had it once, way back in 2011. Initially, I caught the new strain of influenza (swine flu) and it slowly snowballed into pneumonia. Felt like death for over a week. Of course now, I always get an annual influenza shot after that experience, and I haven't gotten that sick since. Hope you improve soon and get back on the water. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 I feel for you man - my one bout of pneumonia was back around 1972 but it sucked cow dung. 44 minutes ago, gimruis said: Of course now, I always get an annual influenza shot after that experience, and I haven't gotten that sick since. The two times I got the shot, I was sick as a dog for over a week...don't get the shot, and what ever I 'catch' I'm over in 2-3 days - needless to say I've given up on getting the flu shot...but I am current with my Covid - got my latest booster 2 weeks ago. 2 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 I had it several times as a child and once since adulthood. Its awful even when its not severe. 1 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted October 26, 2022 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2022 I’m like a pack mule, I keep going and going and get oblivious to how I’m really feeling. Had been to Family Dr. They sort of want to blow everything off. Unlike myself, I had wife run me up to Urgent Care Center, couldn’t take it any longer, never been there before. Dr. there within 10 min. Had me shooting X-rays and doing some nubulizer treatment, and hooked me up with the right meds to try to kick this. I’m not down and out on my back just laying low for a few days as they suggest. I’ll clean up a few tackle trays during the down time. Thanks. 4 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted October 26, 2022 Super User Posted October 26, 2022 Pneumonia really sucks. I had it three years in a row the 3rd time was double pneumonia. Good luck and hope you have a fast recovery 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 28, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2022 I fished a 2 day championship tournament on Table Rock a few years back in the rain and cold with pneumonia. Hacking my lungs out the whole time, short of breath, my partner said he thought I was going to die in my sleep because my breathing sounded so weird (before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea so probably had something to do with that also). Wasn't my smartest moment, but we did win at least. Hope you get feeling better, it was no fun when I had it. 1 Quote

I’m on this antibiotic called LEVOFLOXACIN, a huffer called Symbicort, he gave me this prescription if I get into those coughing fits but it hasn’t been an uncontrollable cough since last weekend, and this other huffer in case I feel short of breath but I didn’t need to use it. Dealing with hockers is a full time chore. I feel pretty good about getting out Wednesday. Maybe before, but rain is coming and I don’t want to get back into this condition again. Couple of rock banks along the river that drop off steep to about 13 ft. I want to get on these. Cranks, craws and bugs might get that big one. Should have the whole river to myself. 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Sorry to hear that Spankey. Get well soon. I came down with pneumonia in June of 2021 on a fishing trip. Spent a whole week of vacation in northern Michigan laying in the bed in our rental. Beautiful weather and I had a fever that peaked over 105. ER diagnosed me as having sun poisoning so I spent 5 days waiting to get better without any meds. Driving 5 hours home towing my boat with a fever in the 102 range was not a lot of fun. Came down with Covid about a month later. That was not a good summer for me. 1 1 Quote

JackstrawIII Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Yeah, it stinks big time. 2 of my kids have it and I think my wife is starting to show signs… Sorry man, rest up and feel better! 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted November 9, 2022 Author Super User Posted November 9, 2022 Guys thanks for all the responses. Been feeling like a new person. I was walking around with pneumonia and a pre pneumonia (whatever that is really called) for some time. Was too stupid or ignorant to get it taken care of. Got to the point that I had to. Thanks again. 1 Quote
