This weekend has me stumped....

Water was 55 degrees and slightly stained....   saw fish both on the bottom on drops and suspended over the channels.... NOTHING seemed shallow....

I drug and hopped jigs down the ledges, in the channels, and in the drains of pockets, cranked and hopped a lipless crank on points, worked a deep diving jerkbait over points, channels, and drops, and even made long casts with a blade bait working points from the bottom of the point up to the bank and from the bank back down into the channel....   Zip, Nada.... it was like there was no bass in the lake..  Got frustrated and went shallow and threw a frittside 5 and wacky rig around shoreline cover...... zip, Nada...      Out of answers

55 degree surface water is the cold water period no longer fall transition.

Bass have slowed and can be difficult to catch.

If you metered bait fish then try structure spoons. No bait but metering fish near the bottom try finesse drop shot.

Slow and patience can be boring but catching a few bass is better then catching nothing.

You might try a jigging spoon like a Cotton Cordell, Acme or Hopkins. They're good for a winter time bait when the bass are schooled up deep and lethargic.

Same thing with me this last Saturday.

This is the transition between summer and fall///fall and winter...and can be very tough.

Once the temp starts with a 4 it will get more predictable.

Red trap, jerkbaits, jigs, cranks...oh, it will be on

Around here the weather won't stay stable.  It's hot for a few days then cool for a few days.  Usually the fronts come through the day before I hit the water.

On Oct 8, I did well with a friend bass fishing. The water temp was 57. The following week on Oct 15, I clobbered them with water temps at 51. It was arguably my best outing of the season.

This past weekend, I went one last time. The water temp had dropped to 48. We only caught two fish in 4 hours. Once it dips below 50, just as you stated, the end is near…

Don’t know what else to do? Keep fishing

My late Grandfather tried doing that even after 2 whole days of zero bites walleye fishing, and the third day was the same result.  He was a stubborn individual but finally after 25 hours without a bite he said "its time to hang it up."  The very next day he winterized his boat lol

The fish are always biting somewhere, it's our job to find somewhere!

My bass fishing has sucked for the past 6-7weeks. I went from 4-8 bass every trip to 2 fish in 5 trips. Couple weekends back I got 3 one day then went back last weekend and nada. What have I done to combat this? Started fishing the river for catfish and when it started to cool off 3 weeks ago I switched to walleye and sauger.

Water temps here are in the high 50's and they are feeding. Slow moving baits are not the answer and neither are small baits. My best producing baits the last couple weeks have been a 1/2 or 3/4oz double willowleaf War Eagle spinnerbait with a whole 4.75" Rage Swimmer for a trailer, burning a 5/8oz trap, or a 7 3/4" glide bait.

Water was 51-54 up in the hills Tuesday, the only thing that worked for me was T rigged craws low and slow. Thought that was my last day of the year but GS #2 wants to go out tomorrow after a half day at school, so I get in one more. Time to reload the truck.

I plan on going tomorrow on a lake I havent visited in many years . The wind and mechanical failures have kept me off the water  for about a month . I'm back in business now . I'm simply going to cruise the shoreline and fish .

Did you mark fish on sonar ? A lot of times they are out deep chasing bait balls.ALABAMS RIGS cast or trolled work well when this happens.
