Im sure we've all had them and they suck for various reasons. The latest one I'm dealing with is driving me insane. He's annoying because he takes forever to make a point when he's speaking if he even makes one. Also he's been in the Ethanol industry for 5 or 6 years but he can't do a single d**n thing on his own.

On top of all of this he's super socially awkward...stands around all creepily while other people are talking and when he wants to butt in he holds his finger up as if he was raising his hand to speak in class. Dude we did that in like 4th grade, your 35 years old stop being a moron.

So how many of you have had a coworker that gets under your skin?

This was back in 2005 so the woke culture wasnt a thing yet. I started with this company in 2000 out in san francisco. The company was ZZZZ heavy equipment rental and sales. After 5 years in san fran working for them i transferred to another ZZZZ branch in my old stomping ground las vegas.

When i was just gettin to know the guys one dude labeled me as a f-g because i transferred from san fran and people think that just because you lived there you must be one.

I asked him to stop calling me that but he didnt. One day we were all in the breakroom for lunch and he called me the label again, everyone snickered and i had had enough.

I told him right then that you really think its funny huh? well heres something you can laugh at, so i pulled out my phone, sittin right across from him i called human resources out east and had a conversation with the hr lady explaining the situation with this dude.

The silence was thick with shock and awe. I finished my call with her and went out to my service truck and went on a call to fix an excavator with a smile on my face.

The next morning when i punched in he walked up to me and asked me if i would like to have his old but new house vacuum telling me his wife just bought a new one.

He had it with him at the timeclock and i didnt have a vacuum and was going to buy one but i accepted his and after that exchange, with no verbal apology for the label he called me by, he nor anyone else ever called me that label again.

I joined the service a little more than a year after graduating high school.

Before that, I had a few, let's call them unskilled labor type employment adventures.

During each one I was the co-worker that sucked.

And I was really good at it.

Always late, sluffed off most of the day, was a total smart azz with just about everyone including my 'boss'.

None of this was tolerated and after a few weeks at each job we went our separate ways.

Usually I just quit because I was a spazz.

Well somehow I ended up in the US Coast Guard and about half way through the 9 weeks of boot camp, my DI made it very clear that (in ways probably not acceptable in todays world) that I was going to need to modify my behavior.  I did thank goodness.

And the rest is history.

So the Moral of the story is,  . . .

Yea, I don't know what the moral of the story is  . . . . . .

But at least I didn't go to prison.

Now my only co-worker is my best friend, and we’re in business together mowing lawns and landscaping, so I don’t have to worry about that anymore. But in my previous job; ten years doing glass work, there was always that one dude who was just a thorn in my side. And not always the same one, but a revolving door of thorns. One bad apple would leave, and I would think to myself “finally!”, but another idiot would always take their place. Every single time.

When I did construction we had a guy that used to hide in the portajohn forever to avoid work. There was always big piles of gravel on those jobsites and I'm a good aim so anytime I'd see him sneaking away, I'd give him about 5 minutes to get settled in before I'd launch an assault with the biggest rocks I could throw, just a few fast ones to really get his attention so he knew that we all knew that he was ducking work. Got him a couple times dropping them down the vent pipe also.

I’m the boss of my team, and the company I work for now bought my old company January of this year. My team from my old company either left or went to different areas, so I’m basically the new kid on the block, who’s in charge of this team who some were hoping to get into a management position so it seems there’s a bit of animosity from some of them. Most are good and listen, a few not so much.

This past weekend I put out our weekend plan and some just have a hard time following simple instructions. It’s quite interesting being in a management role and having to deal with so many different personalities.

I swear I’d have a full head of hair if it weren’t for some of these people.

Good times!

This is one I see all the time I’ve never got.

I just can’t fathom how anyone would rather hangout in a portajohn during the middle of July than just do what needs to be done.

If you’ve ever worked civil service it’s probably not limited to only ONE dirtbag.

LOL

One time my brother and I pushed over a porta-poddy while the idiot kid of the neighborhood was using it.  We pushed it over so the door was facing down too.  And then got on our bikes and got the heck outta there.  I'm thinking that you should have pushed it over while this guy was in it.

At my current position/office, we always tape the bottom of the computer mouse when we get a new employee.  Depending on how long it takes that person to figure out the problem is often an indication of how good or poor that employee is going to be.  Sort of a screening process, if you will.  Let's just say that the good ones figure it out in 10 minutes.  The morons take days.  They change batteries, call IT, and restart their computer numerous times.

Well, I’d love to add to this thread, but I’ve ran my own company for well over ten years now, with no employees at all. I got nothing.
( although maybe I am a sucky coworker and just don’t know it ?).

Ill admit that I can suck as a coworker... Can definitely be hard to get along with at times. But at least I don't need a babysitter and I don't make my work everybody else's problem.

I had to leave early one day to pick up my daughter and he got mad and demanded I tell him why I had to leave.

Ha...why do I need to leave early? The answer is at the intersection of nunya and damnbusiness .

Nope, those ones just end up smashed to bits or at the bottom of the lake. Several hard swings with the 5lb stone hammer promptly deals with those particular “trouble makers”, and wears me out enough to cool me back down to “regular human” mode so I can continue my day ?

There's an old saying. If you think your boss is an A'hole, then try working for yourself.

I worked alone for 25 years. Had a career ending injury and got pushed into corporate America. Spent 5 years at 3 different companies. I was miserable. I hated my coworkers and I'm sure they hated me. I held the cripple card so I couldn't get fired. It's difficult to rely on folks when you are used to relying on yourself.

I'm fortunate I fell in where I'm at, 5 years ago. I was hired for my knowledge of the industry. After 2 years I was given my own store to run. The store was underperforming. The store was handed to me doing $.75M a year. First fiscal year I did $1.2M and second fiscal year I broke $2M. Well, I now have an employee/coworker.

He doesn't suck. He's pretty good at what he does. Guy can't take criticism and he gets stressed out if/when he does something incorrectly. THIS drives me crazy. You made a mistake. Learn from it. Move on. He is incapable of doing this. I'll point out a mistake and he dwells on it, and dwells on it, and dwells on it.

I made the mistake today of explaining to him how his inventory mistakes cost me money. In the grand scheme of things, the $2K I lost from my paycheck this fiscal year is not a huge deal. The $2K of mental anguish he put on himself drives me nuts. I am penalized for inventory discrepancies both positive and negative. I want the guy to succeed. I asked him if I got killed tomorrow, could you run the store?  He can't. I want him to get to the point where, if I did get killed tomorrow, he can...but I don't know that he could. It frustrates me.

I've got customers texting me/emailing me during the evening and weekends and when I'm on vacation. I get to the store early every morning. He's the guy that punches in 5 minutes or less before start time and punches out at 4PM on the button. I get it to a point BUT if you're going to get ahead in my industry, you need to be available when you need to be available.  I didn't go from $800K a year to over $2M in a couple years by accident.

I have some that are always under performing, calling in pretty frequently, whining because they are always overloaded with work and always behind. Then they complain because they don’t get good raises, or move up in the company and someone with less times does. There’s no point in explaining to them their performance, attendance, and attitude might have something to do with it.

I’ve been in heavy industrial equipment repair my whole life. Pretty much work solo and problems I encountered were mine to deal with from start to completion. Not a bad gig if you are not a people person. I Alway got along well with steel and electrical components.

The real suck was going behind guys that were hammer jockeys and not very skilled. Guys with a poor work ethic’s. They sucked at what they did but I can’t really say that they sucked at being human beings. Just in the wrong field.

LOL. I will say there is a time and place for percussive maintenance... ;)

A long time ago I put a Campagnolo sticker on the handle of a ball peen, still hanging  prominently on the tool wall.

Yeah, but a lot of guys that think others suck are the ones that actually suck.
