I am looking at a couple of ranger boats one is a 2000 518svx and the other is a 2000 518vx what is the difference between the 2 models

the "s" in the svx indicates single console. The "vx" in both indicate the VX series .... the top of the line as far as features.

That's correct. The 518VX would have been available as a SVX model or DVX model. The S stands for single console and the D stands for dual console. Some people list the boat with the S or the D and others just list it as a 518VX as that is what appears on the side of the boat.
