For those who are losing skirts to toothy fish.

I keep reading about people on here that are losing skirts to Pike, Musky, Coelacanth.

 

Suggest you try the Lumiflex skirts and wire tie them on. The material is stretchy which should hold up a lot better than silicon skirting? As for where to buy it we will have to wait until Roadwarrior replies as I lost the link he sent me.

I really haven't lost a lot a skirts to pike or musky. One of my baits has 10 plus pike on it with no issues. To me that stuff seems to flashy, perhaps as an accent color mixed in with silicone. I see this post now of course when I could have added some of the material to my lure parts online order to try lol. I may be overthinking the too flashy part too.

 

I do know a lot of the double bladed musky spins use that material or something like it.

 

You could go really old school and try bucktail.

If you're catching coelacanth, you might want to alert the scientific community, lol.

 

Anyway, durability isn't much an issue. If the skirt gets that bad, it's probably time to abandon that bait.

My skirts getting shredded. On both my chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, primarily from pike. They especially take a beating in the late summer/fall period when the water temps drop and the pike go on a rampage. I’m interested in something more durable but I have my doubts that anything soft will hold up to the pack of teeth better than something else. I’d rather replace a skirt than the whole lure.

I don't often lose skirts--I just lose whole baits to pike.

When the pickerel fishing gets really good around here (just around the corner) they will chew through a silicone skirt in a trip or two, easy enough to replace on the fly (ha), also I like bucktail or doll's hair better than lumiflex for Esox hooks.
