I have a friend that has a youtube fishing channel that's very informative and would like to give the address.  It's usually on Lake Lanier in GA.  I read the laws but am still not sure.  Thanks

So the forum rules prohibit promotion of your own youtube channel, etc. I'd think posting a link to your friend's channel without some sort of relevant conversation pre-existing on the site would probably fall into that same promotions basket. That said, on occasion you do see "who's your favorite fishing youtuber" threads, those would probably be an appropriate place for your friend's channel next time you see one. Mods also seem to be cool with conversationally-relevant personal video, but extra emphasis on the "conversationally relevant" part. I'm not a mod so I probably shouldn't be commenting but ?‍♂️?

Yeah, that's treading into the "promotional" waters. We have to keep it pretty black and white or, instead of just coming here and promoting their page themselves, people will just have their friends do it if we allowed that loophole. Not at all saying that's what you're doing so please don't take it that way, just explaining why we don't allow it.

Now if they join and want to share their videos with no watermarks or promotional lingo (if you like this video smash that like button and subscribe!), they are welcome to do that.

The last time I mentioned a YouTube channel the post disappeared in 3 minutes. Not complaining, mind you. It just didn't occur to me it was an infraction.

I have my doubts that there exists such a thing as a Youtube video that doesn't encourage the user to SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON (and don't forget to subscribe) anymore.

I haven't ever ended one of mine like that, but I have no aspiration of becoming a professional Tuber. It's very cringy to me when videos end that way. If people like the content, they'll follow. I'm sure @A-Jay hasn't ever ended a video asking for subs and likes either either.

Never have & never will ~

Watch - Don't watch - Like - Don't like.

Whatever.

I started making these fishing videos so my wife who can't really fish with me anymore,

can see how my day went.

Just kept it going after that.

See still expects a video from every trip and almost always get one.

Many don't get posted publicly and are just for her.

Some of my favorites in fact.

Neither do I - sounds too much like begging to me. I just put the vids out there, if people want to see more, they'll decide without me having to ask.

Thank goodness they tell me to like and subscribe. I would have forgotten to do that.

I'm seeing a big shift to Patreon, for basically a few bucks a month. If you like a channel, and they have one, it's a much cleaner environment to enjoy good content. I follow Drum! w/ Mike and Eddy and Hawk vs. Wolf.

I think its safe to say that most of us here find your videos not only entertaining, but also informative and inspiring.  There's a reasonable chance that many of us will never get to experience the ride in a Pro V Bass across a massive Great Lake at dawn followed by the thrill of a 6 pound smallmouth.  I know I won't, even though I consider myself an avid bass angler.

Now if you could just tell us where exactly Lake Menderchuck is...

@gimruis

First off, you are a heck of a good stick.

Second, Thank you very much for the kind words.

I really appreciate it.

Geez….can you fill me in on what it’s like to have a wife that shares the same interests? My wife just rolls her eyes and says “your back already?” when I return from my trips.

Thats ok though….the next time I go out to the lake I’m taking every single rod and reel I own while she receives a special delivery of papers ?

My wife is the exact opposite.  I almost always get the "when are you coming home?" question.

I've almost completely forgot what its like to be an unleashed guy and go fishing for as long as I wanted to.  No house, no family, no dog, no responsibilities other than myself.  Man, those were the days...

"It's very cringy to me when videos end that way."

The ones that really irk me are the ones that ask for all the button clicking first, before they even start their content. And then they ask/remind again at the end.

It's the best.

But it took me two tries.

Still paying the first one.

Mine is the reverse again. Always asking 'When you gonna go out again?'

She knows it's my down-time from helping her as we still don't have a PCA available, so I'm doing that 'job'.

That's why I waited until I was 30 - had to make sure it was the right one.

I'm her second, but the first kind of disappeared after her and I tied the knot...no great loss.

Or “you’re going fishing again?!”. I wish she would tell me to stay on the lake longer.

Me too! First one had no interest. Found the right one on the second try and she loves the outdoors.

Look through the 'Latest Catch' topic - he posts his vids there....see the little box in the lower-left corner saying 'Watch on YouTube'?...click on that and you're there.

He also posts topics about his trips ...search for posts by him and you'll find them there as well.

Yup, just watch my videos.  She's in most of them - usually catching the biggest fish too!

Beautiful couple:)

Here's why I love A-Jay's video far beyond the beautiful kino he produces along with world class sized Brown fish.......he's illustrating a respect for the fish all anglers including myself should take notes from.

You can brag on YT

You can promote and shill on YT

OR

You can teach and just share exciting moments of your life with your community and friends on YT

I think this site's CoC has no problem with doing the last one, or really even the first one to answer the OP's question.     It seems to be a somewhat nuanced policy but shilling for sales or subs seems pretty cut and dry no go.     Personally, I won't post any YT video other than ones I make myself for a non-monetized channel.     I love the TacticalBassin videos, but only mention that I watched xyz on their channel, not link it.

I have spent years at a particular paddling and fishing website and there are posters whose ONLY threads include links to their YouTube videos. These posters don't appear in other people's threads to encourage them or congratulate them. They only use that website as place for their free-of-cost commercials. It's annoying as Heck and they add zero value to that community. So, I standing-applaud bassresource.com's position.

P. S. - Does anyone know why my posts have lots of white space below the text?

I don’t post personal pics of anything online but asking for likes might be a little less cringy if the motivations for doing so were better understood.  My understanding from multiple friends is that many will start a channel/blog/etc. just to write off their purchases, etc. without having to show a profit for the first few years.  I even had a co-worker who created a junky wine tasting blog, just so he could write off his wine purchases and a trip to Napa every year.  Again, I don’t know all the specifics or limitations but I assume there is some validity to it as I know a number of folks that do it.

Very true, happens on every hobby forum I've been a member of.   At least they are easy to spot after awhile.

The only way I can make my posts look like yours with the big white space below is to keep hitting enter after the last sentence.
