Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 Wake Baits come in either a long minnow shape or a short crank bait shape with a near vertical bill for 0 - 1 ft. diving depth and can be deadly in the Fall ... For those who like throwing a Wake Bait in the Fall - what brand / series and favorite colors do you like to use ? Quote
looking45 Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 My go to wake Bait is a Dep’s Buzzjet. It makes a lot of noise and it catches fish 2 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 I'm not a wakebait aficionado, but I like the BPS Egg. Color is simple. Chartreuse and black for any and all crankbaits. But I fish a lot of stained water. 2 Quote

Kdizzle Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 The BBZ 1 rat is pretty d**n good one. The size 25 and 30 are more crankbaits, so you have to go up to the larger sizes to actually get one that actually wakes, but they are really good at catching fish. Especially in rivers that border big grass fields, which have a steady supply of small rodents crossing from one side to the other. 2 Quote

Great night bait! my favorite wake colors are mostly solid colors. Black, white, red, chartreuse or a silver shad style color. I fish big wake baits though Quote

VolFan Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Mini Slammer - phenomenal bait. Go bigger if you want…7” is great, 9” and larger, also great. Don’t really need Swimbait gear until you’re really in the big ones 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 The Redfin and Surge shad mostly. I like the discontinued Spro Rat as well. Quote
Standard Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 About a year and a half ago I grabbed a Berkley Wakebull off the shelf because it looked neat, had never even heard of a wake bait at the time. Love it, it's been my go to not only because it works well, but for some reason no stores around here stock much for wake baits and I keep forgetting to order more online ? Black top / chartreuse belly color works great around here. Although not a wake bait, the Strike King Hybrid Hunter and Hybrid Hunter Jr have also produced great fish. Can run them slow and shallow, and I've had luck even trolling with them. Common thread between those two lures is they have a pair of big ball bearings that make a great knocking sound in the water. Really seemed to tick the smallies off around here. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted October 21, 2022 Super User Posted October 21, 2022 My favorite wake bait by far is the Lucky Craft RC Wk, I've also had good luck with the Buckeye Wake Up, which is now the PH Customs Wake Up. One is a standard crankbait shape and one is a minnow, jerkbait shape. I've tried too many wake baits that dive below the surface and these two stay up and actually create a wake. Quote

The Wakebull was affordable , did not blow out on a fast retrieve , had good colors and was affordable . Quote
