Are you talking truck or muscle car?

Both!

Straight axle on a car wasn't stock.

I remember driving to TX with my grandfather in the late 70's. My uncle and cousins moved from Chicago to Austin. Poppa had a CB radio in the 1976 Pontiac LeMans That LeMans eventually became mine. That LeMans became famous in Smokey and the Bandit. The one in the movie was a 77. Mine was a 76

Shortly after the start of the 1964 model year, the LeMans became available with a new performance package designated as the GTO

Best friend bought a 65 GTO, $ 3200.00 out the door, and that's with options.

All GTO’s in ‘64 and ‘65 was an option based on the Tempest line which was a trim and slight performance package upgrade of the Lemans.

There’s always been confusion about which car the GTO was based on as they we’re basically the same car.

On my 65’s original Build Sheet and Billing and History Card, the GTO option code for the Tempest is #382 for cars built at the Pontiac Mich plant.

For cars built at the Kansa City and Baltimore plants the code could be different.

The GTO didn’t become its own model until ‘66.

Since in 64 and 65 the GTO package was an option, they were/are one of the most cloned cars.
That’s why anyone interested in buying one of those years, investing in a complete build history from the Pontiac Historical Society is a must.

The MSRP for my Tempest hard top was $2935 with the GTO option of 295.90!!

Total with all the options mine priced out at $3890!

Yes Sir ?

The biggest shock to my boys & their friends when they talked to me about muscle cars was when I told them most muscle cars were in fact family cars with performance packages.

Momma told me to change the plugs, points, & condenser in her Galaxy 500. I did, I yanked the distributer & went back with high performance. After she drive it, she looked at me & grinned.
