avidone1 Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I do Seriously, I like fooling a bass as much as the next guy but sometimes I feel like fishing a certain lure or technique even tho conditions call for something else Anybody else do that ?♂️ 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 Nope, if I am getting bit stay with what works when it’s working. May change colors to see if it works better. Tom 5 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 Yep. I ain't fishin for money. Sometimes I wanna catch 'em like I wanna catch 'em. Some baits, I just don't enjoy throwing. I won't throw a jerkbait unless I can't get bit on anything else. 10 Quote
Woody B Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I suspect I throw lure A quite often when lure B might be better. The problem is I don't know about lure B. 4 1 5 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 If lure B is new I might make a few cast with it just to see how it performs but then I'll stow it away until the time is right . I want to catch em all . I dont get tired of catching bass . 1 Quote

Some baits, I just don't enjoy throwing. I won't throw a jerkbait unless I can't get bit on anything else. This is very much me. Half the time I'm throwing a bait that is going to usually only get bit by big fish, so the other half of the time I want to fish something that is fun to me. I could catch fish all day long on a Ned Rig, but I strongly dislike using them. On the other hand it's vastly harder for me to catch fish on a crank, but I love crank bait fishing. 3 Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 I like jigs and will fish one sometimes when I KNOW a soft plastic would be a better choice. 3 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 I have no idea. I just tie things on and throw them. Is there something that would work better that I'm not throwing? Probably. Darned if I know what it is though. 3 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 I'm sure I do. I have a topwater addiction and a moving bait preference. I'll almost always have a topwater of some type tied on and its usually the first thing I pick up even if I'm pretty sure the conditions aren't conducive. I prefer moving baits also, and I know there are times when I stick with them too long when I know I should slow down and pick apart a cover. Some days I make the change, and some days I don't care and want to fish my way. 5 Quote

While I've caught some great bass doing it, I would sooner spoon out an eye than fish a drop shot, stick bait or tiny little ned thing. A-Jay 5 2 Quote

JackstrawIII Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Absolutely. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to fish a certain technique. I'll start there. If it doesn't work and I get bored, then I switch to what I think will work best. 2 Quote

Sometimes it's more about what I'm in the mood for than what the bass are in the mood for. Definitely some days where I should've put the lipless down for a wacky rig or something, but doggone it I wanted that lipless bite. 3 Quote

Super User king fisher Posted October 19, 2022 Super User Posted October 19, 2022 Yes, especially if I am fishing with someone else who is fishing what is working, I can use my fishing partner like a control group, and I can experiment. Sometimes experimenting pays off, and other times it doesn't, but I will learn something regardless if I catch something or not. 2 Quote
BlakeMolone Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 To answer the ops question I definitely do, sometimes it’s nice to spend a few weeks/months/years really learning a certain bait/technique, it’s way more informative then just going by what a pro/someone on YouTube says you should do. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 19, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 19, 2022 As I agreed with earlier…. I’ll stay with what works while it’s working However, If I’m struggling to find what works, I still won’t ned, drop, shake or wack. I’ll find something else Mike 1 1 Quote
