If someone took you on a bass fishing trip to a random lake in the country, and you could only take 1 lure what would it be?

Mine is a Rapala Ripstop Minnow

(Or if I owned one, a pre-rapala Wiggle Wart, pb&j craw)

I should probably have picked something more orthodox, like a senko or a jig, but I have so much confidence in that lure.

3 months ago I would have said a 6" Roboworm T Rigged or on a shakey head

Today it would be a binder full of various Chatterbaits from a Flashback Mini to a Jack Hammer

While the skunk will almost never stay on board with a Roboworm, these days I'm looking at catching the biggest LGM I can, and I feel besides huge swimbaits the Chatterbait gives me that ability.

If you asked me 5 years ago I would’ve said a Senko. But! I gave up the Senko five years ago because it was my crutch and I’d give up everything else after a handful of casts because it didn’t produce like the Senko. It was hard to give up knowing full well I’d be missing out on fish. But, since then I’ve became confident in the bladed jig, jig, slowly but surely the jerkbait, and most recently the lipless crank.

Had I stuck with the Senko, I wouldn’t have learned these other presentations and the Baitmonkey would cover haunt me. Don’t get me wrong he’s still there but he’s more tame than he’s ever been ( that’s not saying much).

I can relate but I was stuck on the drop shot. Same as you, I stopped it dead cold and got off that crutch and as a result, I learned in spinnerbait

2018 spinner bait

2019 4-5” senko (non drop shot)

2020 T-rig plastics (brush hogs, creatures, craws)

My whole bass world got shaken up and my bass skills increased.

still trying to get the jig and trailer bass but haven’t had the opppurtunities.

To the topic, I use jigs. I need to crack that accursed code, lol.

Soft plastic craw or worm.

The early pattern I see in this thread is what I've learned about myself:  The lure I have the most confidence in is the one I'm devoting the most effort on. I've had several favorites over time. They've all been great assuming they were used in the right circumstances. I have to be careful not to get "married" to any single lure or technique.

Soft plastic…..creature or worm.

I have a hard time with this. A year ago I only really used one lure. Right now, I have about 7 different lure types I have supreme confidence in depending on conditions. If I had to pick just one it would probably be a wacky rig simply for its versatility; you can fish it at many speeds with many actions and colors. Covers more bases (basses) than most other lure types I use and will produce a heavy fish once in a while.

Paddletail.

You can flip it, pitch it, swim it, run it topwater, bounce it on the bottom, dropshot it, and more.

Craw for on the bottom or a swim worm depending on the water.
