Mojo Bass Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Hello, I’m looking to upgrade one of my rods for a 7’1 MH/F spec’d victory or legend tournament casting rod does anyone here have experience with one or both of those rods? I’m mostly wondering if the legend tournament is really 100$ better than the victory, is it worth the extra money? Which one is the more bang for your buck? is there a much of a noticeable difference on the water fishing the two rods? The rods will be used for bottom contact baits so sensitivity is important…… Just looking for some input thanks everyone Quote
SproDD79 Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I was looking for a graphite crankbait rod, so I ordered the Victory VTC710HM and the Legend Tournament LBTC710HM, after having the opportunity to hold them and inspect them side by side, I returned the the Victory and kept the Legend Tournament. The Legend seemed more refined, the cork handle was of higher quality, it seemed to have better parabolic bend, it clearly shined over the Victory. I ordered from TW knowing that I was going to return one, consider ordering both and returning the one you are less impressed with. 1 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 16, 2022 Super User Posted October 16, 2022 If you can order both from TW in Canada and return the rod you don’t want sounds good. The Legend Tournament has a higher end rod blank and guide train however no weight is listed so that isn’t a selling point? Personally I prefer the Victory reel seat and fore grip design over the Legend Tournament. $100 or 1/3rd higher price difference is significant. Tom 1 Quote
OG Crankster Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I love my Victory. Im going to use the 100 that I saved and put it towards another version. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted October 16, 2022 Super User Posted October 16, 2022 It is my opinion that the Legend is more sensitive than the Vicotory. Enough to justify the price? Up to you to decide, but if the goal is highest sensitivity, with rods of similar power and action, I believe the Legend will be more sensitive. 2 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted October 17, 2022 Super User Posted October 17, 2022 I have the 7'4" Legend Tournament MH Mod. and it's an amazing rod. I can't speak from a sensitivity standpoint on this rod as I use it for crankbaits but the construction and quality are definitely a big step above the Victory. The only thing that seems odd is the reel seat nut. It seems cheap but it does the job. If you check around you might find a way to get one discounted or with a coupon code. 1 Quote

The MH F Victory blank fishes 'faster' than the MH F LTB IMO. I talked a little about them both while on the water last spring in the clip below. A-Jay 1 Quote
CountryboyinDC Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I have the Victory, but not the same power/length/taper in the LTB. Definitely a light rod, but for whatever reason, I haven't grown to love it. I still like the Avid series better for the reel seat, handle, and general build quality. I've mostly been of the opinion that the LTB is not a huge step up from the Avid, but they have a lot more tapers. So I only have a couple LTBs. Just with my anecdotal experience with the Victory, I think I'd go with the LTB if those were the absolute only choices you're considering. 1 Quote
Ryan Smith Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 I hate to dig up old posts but I have a similar question regarding the St Croix 7’3MHF Marshall Victory vs The 7’3 MHF LTB casting rods. I live in Florida and fish heavy hydrilla lakes and love the Victory for chatter baits. For me it’s the best chatter bait rod I’ve fished because of the power and action of the rod is perfect. I’m looking at upgrading to the LTB because I’ve broken 3 victory rods that have just exploded setting the hook. My question is the LTB a more durable blank than the Victory? I know they use different grades of carbon/graphite in LTB. The Victory rods are the only rods I’ve broken and even though they are the perfect power and action for chatter baits, I’m tired of them breaking. I’m looking at going with the LTB if it’s a stronger more durable blank than the Victory. If not I’ll end up going with a different company. I love St Croix but the Victory line just don’t hold up well in the lakes I fish. I appreciate any help you can provide. I know A-Jay has both line of rods so curious to get his feedback. Quote
thunderblack Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Legend would be my choice! Great design this time around. Quote

I do have and fish both the Victory rods and LBT. Casting and spinning. Like them both quite a bit and have NOT Blown one up. And just to be clear, I can blow up rods with the best of them. All things being equal, IMO, the Victory rods are lighter, faster & crisper than the same actions in the LTB lines. So the LTB sticks actually bend further down the blank when they need to. If you're snapping the Victory rods, that may explain it. Hope you're using the ST Croix warranty Process as well. Good Luck. A-Jay 1 Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I'm not familiar with the Victory but I do have a legend tournement. Its a really nice rod. Well built and sensitive. Quote
Randy Price Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 They are both good rods but I would give the edge to the Legend Tournament if the money is not so much an issue. 1 Quote
