Got a couple inches of snow here over night.  Gonna be cold for about a week, but it appears to be right back near or above freezing in about a week.

9 inches of snow last night. light fluffy stuff so clean up should be a breeze. We’ve received 76” of snow so far and typically have 45” at this point. We went 25 days in a row without measurable snow. Crazy winter so far.

It was only a matter of time for us . . .

Some of the coldest weather this season is expected as Arctic air moves into the Great Lakes region later this week. The coldest temperatures will be early Friday and Saturday mornings with low temperatures in upper Michigan around -15°F and near -10°F in lower Michigan.

This will lead to wind chills between -20 and -30 degrees.

Seeing how I’m pretty much exactly east of you on the other side of Georgian Bay, looks like we’re getting the same stuff. Not bad though, we haven’t had anything even remotely close to those temps all year so far, and by Monday it’s supposed to be right back up to around the freezing mark. We have got about 2’ more snow in the last several days though, and another 6-12” supposed to come tomorrow. I’m about done with cleaning driveways and decks/steps off after work in the dark every day.

I'd rather clean snow than deal with 20, 30 & 40 below.

That just hurts and stuff breaks.

One of the reasons we moved to the Houston area was to escape typical Maryland winter weather.

Current Bel Air, Md temp: 35°

Current Conroe, TX temp: 37°

But at least no white stuff! High of 68° Sunday. I’m hoping to be fishing!

Coldest air of the winter moving in on upstate NY. Few daily highs in the teens and at night supposed to drop well into the negatives. But then Sunday and on will be right back up to mid 40s. Only about 13” of snowfall so far. Way below average. Weird winter.

It's hitting us tonight. -40 wind chills with lake effect snow coming off both Erie and Ontario. Working from home never sounded so good.

When I got home today around 3:00, it was just below freezing. The wind started to absolutely scream across the fields just about then, and the temps started to plummet. Supposed to hit -40 wind chills here tonight too. We had some crazy squalls here as well. At one point I couldn’t see my barn which is only about 50yds from the house. Nosed the truck into the front of the boat shed and plugged the block heater into the timer for the morning, and I’m gonna have to snow blow the driveway out before I even try to go to work. The entire driveway is drifted right across, pretty much 3’ deep. Next week is supposed to be above freezing for a good portion of the week, crazy temp swings this year!

Took this pic just as the squalls stopped, you can still see the dark clouds in the distance.

Was even worse today. I got home about 1:00 and had to blow the driveway out. First time I’ve ever blown out the drive with a skidoo helmet on. There’s no way I’d be able to do it in that wind with just a hat and hoodie like I usually do. Any exposed skin started to hurt in about a minute!
Good thing is all next week is pretty much supposed to be back up above freezing during the days.

We bottomed out at -16˚F.  Nearby Glens Falls (which is south of me) hit -22˚F, according to the National Weather Service webpages.  It's supposed to be single digits today, but then back up into the high thirties all next week.

We've had a very warm winter.  Last night was our first below-zero weather for the season.

Currently sitting at -13° in Clifton Park. At least the wind has finally died down.

You guys got it easy. Last night at 10:00 we officially hit our low for the evening, right at -40. That’s without the wind chill, just straight up cold! Not even sure what the official “wind chill” measurements were, but we’re in a fairly open field area, and there was definitely a breeze ( of pure death?) added to that as well.

For anyone on here in the south that’s never experienced those kind of temps, about the only way to describe it is pain.
-20 to -30 is pretty cold, but once the actual air temps get down to -40, especially with wind chills added on, it takes literally seconds for stuff to go wrong. Skin freezes, dogs feet hurt, the house pops and booms like it’s being hit with a huge baseball bat, and like @A-Jay said, stuff just breaks. Luckily here, the wood stove was loaded right full when we went to bed, and the house stayed cosy.  It appears as nothing broke around here, and it’s already warmed up to a balmy -20 and supposed to keep warming, so we’re on the good side of it now.

The coldest air temp I’ve experienced here in MN is -36. With the windchill it was -50+. I remember the house “popping” like you said. It sounds like a muffled black cat firecracker going off randomly.

Until you've experienced that kind of cold you have no way to anticipate what it will really feel like. I've lived here for 20+ Years and it always catches me off guard. My crew worked Christmas weekend and the windchills here for those 3 days were -42, -46 and - 36. Like you said it takes no time at all for things to go wrong.

I think the coldest I’ve seen around here was -20 actual temp.

Outside yesterday, when we include the wind chill,

it was at least 20 degrees warmer in my freezer.
