Only good thing I can say is 3 days of below freezing temperatures will kill some marsh grass. Went to my most productive area Friday, wind & current had move Gaint Salvinia in blanketing the whole area.

I’m in the “eye” of this thing right now. Been snowing most of the day but we only have about 2” or so, and hardly a breeze (so far).  Still about a degree above freezing right now too, but it sounds like the real cold and wind is gonna hit tonight and through tomorrow. Fine by me, we’re not going anywhere for Christmas so we’ll just keep loading the wood stove and filling our bellies.

I’m about where the green dot is in the pic.

Well as of now this storm has been a dud, which I guess isn’t entirely a bad thing. It’s only 6 with a windchill of -16. The snow has been the dud, we’ve only received around 6”. The wind is blowing at a pretty good clip which has windswept the roads and created treacherous conditions.

We Are Getting Hammered ~

Dogs just has a time rolling round and blasting through the drifts.

Completely disappeared several times

Pretty sure there will be video at some point.

If this goes through the night and into tomorrow

it may be better than waist deep.

It hit here last night. We had a low of -7 and a high of 0 with wind chills in the -20 to -30 range all day along with about 2" of snow with ice under it. With any luck they say we might get to 14 tomorrow.

Going back to a comment @roadwarrior made about this in an earlier post, I wish I had a way to pack this mess up and send it to him and let him love every minute of it. Shining Jack Nicholson GIF

TVA is conducting rolling blackouts all across TN, they said the grid couldnt handle everyone’s heat pump. Can’t wait for electric cars! (Not)

everyones pipes are frozen , I think it was in the 50s inside when I woke up this morning

another ironic part is TVA will just pass the cost of anything right along to the customers they left in the cold and dark

Snowed all night ~

I'll be wading out into it later this morning to get a few pics.

Looks like 3 ft or so - Should be good.

btw - supposed to continue snowing all day & straight through into tomorrow morning.

The local emergency management has 'officially closed' the county.

That doesn't happened much.

The snow blower will be busy.

I just got another rolling blackout while in the shower and it’s not warm inside. I think I’ll just drive around in circles and hope the gas stations have power

Very little snow in eastern Nebraska from the storm and the cold temps are starting to subside. Hit close to -46 (windchill) on Thursday and now we are looking at positive-side numbers today. Still freezing, but at least on the right side of 0.

All the traffic lights are out, quite interesting. We have zero snow

I guess I don’t understand how this is even possible. Do you have them in the summer when everyone is running their A/C? I guess we’re pretty fortunate up here because we never have rolling blackouts.

Still no real WINTER in Boston/Cape Cod yet.  It's 11 degrees out as I have coffee this morning.  I expect to see skim ice around, but it won't last.  Next week's forecast calls for mid to high 40s.

I'm lucky to live within an hour of Cape Cod.  It hasn't frozen over the last few years.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Man be safe guys. I am lucky here just highs in the teens for day time temps and windy. No precipitation. The susky is rolling pretty good right now. I am hoping they keeps any ice of it for the end of next week. They want it in the low 50s

First one I’ve had in my life or even heard of around here. I’ve heard of them in TX, another place everyone is moving to.  I think it probably has something to do with all of NY and CA moving here

meanwhile someone on a development/planning/housing committee is making big bucks failing at their job (or taking bribes from developers). The board is of course made up of former developers

I believe it’s the same root cause as to why @bulldog1935 doesn’t have any water in his fishing holes, over development

Same here for last night and all day today. Our power went out about 9:30 last night, crazy winds here. Still off now. I had to snowblow a trail from the barn to the house just to drag the generator out, and did the end of the driveway cause the bank was about 4’ high. We’re not planning to go anywhere for the next couple days, but I didn’t want to not be able to escape should we need to.

That window in my barn door is about 5’ off the ground. Fairly good bet to say we’re gonna have a white Christmas.

I can’t complain.  Currently 8 degrees with a “feels like” temp of -3.  We have a gas furnace that can take good care of the house and we have an addition that is built on stilts and has its own fairly new heat pump and heatalator fireplace.  No wood stockpiled for this winter since our last 2 winters have been mild and it’s a royal pain to stack wood.  Heat pump has only been able to get the addition up to 65 so I pulled out the emergency heat to give it a hand.  ?. Everyone stay warm and for those without power get to a warming station or find someone who does.

It hit 13 degrees last night...and then the ice storm hit.  Ugh.  Lots of road closures, airport was shut down for a while, house is coated in ice.  Thankfully we have power and it's supposed to warm up to 38 today.  Then it's heavy downpours with temps around 50 for the next week.  Hey, at least it won't be freezing anymore.

There’s plenty of funny videos on Ticktock from the ice storm in Seattle. People sliding down streets on their hands and knees and cars sliding all around too.

Hardly any snow here, just bitter cold and blasting winds. Went from 43 to 7 in just hours.

Our temps are finally in the plus column for the first time in 62 hours.  +0.9 at my house right now.

Lynn set up the GoPro while I was snow blowing.

Haven't looked at it yet.

I did get some before & after pics.

Going through them now.

Big snow is kind of fun - for a while.

No power is not.

Especially in the summer.

More to follow.

We’re very lucky here as far as power outages go. It does go out a fair bit, due to us being in the woods and being quite a ways from the main transmission line, but usually it’s only out for several hours at the most and occasionally a day or so. We have a generator big enough to run everything we need to in the house, and our whole place is primarily heated with a wood stove, so we’re nice and toasty no matter what happens.
