Yes, that's accurate. Minnesota is fairly unique when it comes to topography though. The entire western half of it is almost entirely prairie like it is in the Dakotas and Iowa. Whereas the eastern half is probably more like what you have in Michigan. There is a blend of timber and bluffs. The entire northeast sector of MN is all heavy timber, aka the Arrowhead. That is why the Blizzard Warning is in effect here for the western portion of the state. The eastern portion is classified as a Winter Storm Warning even though the winds and snow are projected to be almost exactly the same. 1 Quote

I think of Minnesota a lot like Michigan, hills, lakes, and lots of trees. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 Sneaking into the 3 ft area code now. With the big wind coming, this is when we can get epic pics of those first early morning fresh virgin snow drifts. The ones that extent all the way up to the roof . . . . . My dogs will get lost in that mess . . . . Probably at a foot or so now A-Jay 2 Quote

South of us - they're closing roads cause of blizzard conditions. Any road marked with a red-circle/white dash...that one's closed. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 Not much snow down this way, but a lot of cold wind. Wind chill an hour ago was -32 degrees. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 Luckily we’re just getting a ton of rain in upstate NY. Weather is in the 40s and 50s. Not often that we miss the brunt of winter storms here but we got lucky this time. Quote

It was 56 at midnight here, it's 43 now, going to be below freezing by noon, and 11 degrees in the morning. Luckily we've had all our rain (almost 2") with this system. Some folks further west may not be as fortunate. Quote

Temps will be taking a nose dive into the teens tonight but the rain should be over by then. 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted December 23, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 23, 2022 Who needs coffee in the morning when you get right out of bed and go shovel snow for our little dog with windchills -16! I did break a little sweat so I must’ve been dressed appropriately. So far we’ve received around 5” but there’s more coming and the wind is blowing at a pretty good clip. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 Everything is shut down here and bracing for the ice storm. Right now it's 37* and pouring. Quote

The entire section of Interstate 90 between Albert Lea, MN and Rapid City, SD has been closed as of yesterday at 5pm. That is a LONG stretch of highway. Additionally, Interstate 94 from Jamestown, ND to Glendive, MT has also been closed. As has Interstate 29 between Sioux Falls, SD and Fargo, ND. So ya, virtually all of the Dakotas and southwestern MN have been completely shut down. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 Winds are touching 40+ mph here and it's snowing - thankfully. That means no ice storm, I hope. 1 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 23, 2022 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 23, 2022 It hit 13 degrees last night...and then the ice storm hit. Ugh. Lots of road closures, airport was shut down for a while, house is coated in ice. Thankfully we have power and it's supposed to warm up to 38 today. Then it's heavy downpours with temps around 50 for the next week. Hey, at least it won't be freezing anymore. 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted December 23, 2022 Super User Posted December 23, 2022 We just had power restored, was out for 3 hrs due to high winds. 4* with a forecasted -15 wind chill tonight. Set my alarm for 3am so I can shove more wood in the boiler, it won't hold all night in those temps. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted December 23, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 23, 2022 I just looked at my shipping app and there isn’t a single ship on Lake Michigan right now and there’s only two ships on Lake Superior and they’re hugging the Canadian coast. It would be a wild ride for sure on those two lakes today. 4 Quote
