I'm going to start shallow after learning from the last one we had two weeks ago. One successful pro down here breaks the top water out. The thought of Top water is like thinking of a warm beach and Margaritas ? Me personally if I'm on a clearer water lake and I've got cloud cover and cold, cold water temps, it can be very hard to get me to stop throwing a single colorado spinnerbait. Don't really care what the air temp is. Because a spinnerbait is where I feel most comfortable, those overcast winter days are what I love 1 Quote

Not very confident with Spinnerbaits, but I'll give them a try during this warming period. All it takes is catching some good fish for you to get confidence with a bait, I always remind myself of this. I've been throwing so many new things this year for the first time. Metal baits has been the only bust so far. Quote

Drop a compact single colorado to the bottom, slack line fall to let it helicopter, go into an immediate rod snap in case one grabbed it on the fall, and then creep it along at the exact slowest speed where you can just barely feel the blade turning. It will work even in frigid water. Quote

Good to know……… will try granted I’ve failed at all temperatures Quote

Good to know……… will try granted I’ve failed at all temperatures I wanna say I remember a guy telling me the water temp was 39 degrees on a lake in NY when I was catching in like November shortly before ice over with that spinnerbait technique. With my most recent post in Latest Catch Pics thread, I dunno how cold the water was but same technique and it felt frigid. I don’t think it catches numbers in the cold but I do think it catches bigguns. Also I did some reading on Shearon Harris, wintertime or otherwise, and spinnerbaits can be a big deal on that lake apparently. No surprise with how many shad there is. If I get on the right spot, y’all look out Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted December 21, 2022 Global Moderator Posted December 21, 2022 The closer this storm gets the nastier it’s looking. As of now the prediction is 8” of snow by Friday morning, 14” by Saturday morning, then another 8-10” of lake effect by Saturday night for a grand total of upwards of 24”+. By Friday evening 40-50mph winds roll in and continues through Saturday with windchills down to -15*. Some areas along the lakeshore are looking at or above 3’. All the snow is going to be lite and fluffy, throw in the 40-50mph winds, and we could see some deep interesting snow drifts. Should be interesting! 1 Quote

NWS could save a lot of time an effort if they just posted something to the effect of: "Be Advised ~ Old Man Winter will be dropping the hammer this weekend". A-Jay 1 Quote

Looking off to the east I can see clear skies and it looks like we could see the sun if it had time to get above the trees, but it like the movie the Perfect Storm. You see a glimmer of hope and get excited for a second, then reality sets in and the clouds engulf the sun! 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted December 21, 2022 Super User Posted December 21, 2022 They've dropped the snow totals here from 5-10 inches to 3-6 inches. I'd be fine with only 3 inches of the really light fluffy stuff. That wouldn't be much different from the snow we got on Monday. Behind the snow it will get bitter cold and very windy, creating potentially white out conditions in open areas. Some areas of Western MN are expected to reach -40 wind chill. That gives you under 10 minutes before frost bite can occur on exposed skin. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted December 21, 2022 Super User Posted December 21, 2022 My area( north Central MO) will be getting hit tonight. 3" to 5" of snow and bitter cold with wind chills near 30 below. The weatherman said this is coming from Siberia. Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted December 21, 2022 Super User Posted December 21, 2022 Looks like here in my area we are in for a good soaking and then deep freeze. Today is the last day of reasonable weather for a while and I was scheduled to go fishing and wouldn’t you know it, the wife comes down with Covid. Now I get to be quarantined and take care of her. 1 Quote
