SWVABass Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I’ll give it a 5/10 hahaha decent attempt to spoof it. I thought for a quick min it was true footage hahaha. Did you happen to listen to the big water podcast on this? Pretty crazy the director was good buddies with at least one of the dudes. Quote

I didn't go to law school, but if the reporting is correct, I could get these guys off. When a prosecutor says "I believe it is also a crime" It's high five time for the defense. Quote

You're right. There is no direct reference to the photo and that actually being the seized boat. One would assume the photo attached to the article is actually referencing the specific boat in question. I think its safe to assume that they weren't using a bass boat though. And the article indicates twice that it was a bass boat. Clearly they aren't using a bass boat in the LEWT. "The indictment comes one day after authorities in Pennsylvania seized Cominsky’s Ranger bass boat and trailer as part of the investigation." Quote

Super User J Francho Posted October 13, 2022 Super User Posted October 13, 2022 A typical journalist probably doesn't know the difference between a walleye boat and a bass boat. That's probably their boat in the picture. It would be too difficult to find stock photo of a Ranger walleye boat and a DNR pickup. 1 Quote

BassNJake Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 In another video, it stated that Jacob Runyon is also going to court over a domestic violence charge and also had a restraining order placed upon him. Walleye cheater and a wife beater, what a guy 1 Quote

He deserves to spend at least a decade with men exactly like himself, except meaner, and tougher. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted October 27, 2022 Super User Posted October 27, 2022 Latest news "Fishermen Jacob Runyan and Chase Cominsky, accused of packing weights into fish in an attempt to win nearly $30,000 at an Ohio tournament, pleaded not guilty Wednesday." Ya, the charges are felonies - but 5th degree....12 months in prison and $2,500 in fines - WHAT! Though if found guilty of the raw fillets found - loss of license indefinitely. https://www.npr.org/2022/10/26/1131624458/walleye-fishermen-plead-not-guilty-in-cheating-scandal Quote
Super User gim Posted October 27, 2022 Super User Posted October 27, 2022 The prison sentence and/or fine is probably going to be minimal to be honest. A good lawyer can make that happen. If they are found to be guilty of a felony, regardless of what degree it is, that will stay with them for a long time. Convicted felons do not retain privileges in this country that most other free law-abiding citizens do. For one, they'll never be permitted to own a firearm, which means their hunting via that route is done. Second, they won't be going to Canada to fish because Canada does not permit entry of felons either. They may or may not also lose their right to vote. They may lose their angling privileges for at least a period of time. Good luck getting a decent job too. Would you hire someone that got caught stuffing lead weights down the throats of walleyes in a tournament? I sure wouldn't. Even just to bag groceries or clean toilets. The real punishment, IMO, will come when they try to re-enter the community that they previously lived in. They cheated people they know and compete against. Every time they leave their truck unattended, there is going to be an increased likelihood of vandalism when they return. Every time they enter a public domain and someone recognizes them, there may be an argument. If they have children, they will be at risk. I assume lots of people know where they live too, which creates potential issues at each of their residences. Quite honestly, they're probably going to have to move. Unless they want to be harassed for years down the road, they're gonna have to move to a location where they aren't recognized. 2 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted October 28, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2022 I’d guess they’ll take a plea deal for misdemeanors, pay some fines, and maybe probation or suspended sentence. Basically a slap on the wrist. This scenario would tick me off but I’d guess is most likely. That being said, the court of public opinion will deliver the harshest sentence. I think @gimruis is spot on. This story has blown up and gone national and they’d have to move far far away to get away from this! 1 Quote

KP Duty Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 We have seen cheaters before, but this incident has received more publicity than any past scandal. Tucker Carlson covered it on his show, saw it on CNN/HLN, and my local news covered it. These guys are absolutely ruined....in fishing and in life. Everyone you know or have met knows you are a POS Quote
