Congratulations! Chatterbaits seem to work better around here in the spring and fall when the temps are cooler.

Yes sir same here. They work in summer too, but there’s definitely an uptick in fall

Don't put 'em down in summer. Get out there after dark and run 'em over submerged grass and along defined weedlines. When the bluegill are on beds it's prime chatterbait time at night!!! It's a multi species killer at night, and it gets big bites.

Do you catch them on slower retrieves or only while burning them in clear water? In the dingy water back home it was always a slow retrieve. The clearer water where I am now doesn't seem to give up the smallies on a slow retrieve. I'm wondering about a faster retrieve. How deep is your water? If you are burning the spinnerbait then the smallies must be coming up for them. Read a book by Jim Root and he swears by spinner baits for smallies in rivers and lakes.

When we caught them in the lake, burning them required the heavier weight and they ran about mid water column in 4 to 8 foot of water.  Never slow rolled them.  Never fished them in dirty water. I have slow rolled spinnerbaits in other situations for largemouth.  Dirty water or cold water required slowing down.
