terribletofu Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Might be a stupid question, but do these only work only o lures or would they work for instance on a drop shot rig if i get stuck in cattails, etc? Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 4, 2022 Super User Posted October 4, 2022 If you are referring to the ones that slide down the line , they only work from a boat , or you have to be right over the snagged lure . Quote
Super User Bankc Posted October 4, 2022 Super User Posted October 4, 2022 I don't see why they couldn't work on a drop shot rig, if the hook is what was hung up (and not the weight below it). I've freed jigs and spinnerbaits with mine before. Though, they're not successful 100% of the time, and I usually drop shot with pretty thin line, so I wouldn't expect a high chance of success. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 4, 2022 Super User Posted October 4, 2022 Are you fishing from the bank? I use my telescopic lure retriever when I'm hung in the water willows along the shore. It's easier to pull up the entire plant than trying to get the hook out of a stalk. Quote

Super User islandbass Posted October 11, 2022 Super User Posted October 11, 2022 Chances are the weight is what is stuck so those sliding lure knockers might not make it to the snagged weight. I made my own lure knocker and I can tell you from experience that unless you significantly have the higher ground, you will have a very difficult time trying to get the knocker to work. I too am a shore angler who drop shots. Far better to break off and retie. 6# - 8# test is breakable. I also stopped using dedicated “drop shot weights” for years now. I use pencil lead. Far cheaper economical and I can customize my own weight. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted October 11, 2022 Super User Posted October 11, 2022 I fish from a kayak, and I know the general vicinity of two great jigs with lure knockers sitting next to them in trees at Lake Sonoma. I suck with them. I have one lure knocker left and I dont have that warm/fuzzy feeling. my friend bought a telescoping setup that his giant ProAngler has room to carry. so the best telescoping lure retriever possible, is a friends telescoping lure retriever 1 Quote

Super User king fisher Posted October 11, 2022 Super User Posted October 11, 2022 I used to brag about how much money I saved with my lure retriever, until one very windy day, I lost my lure, lure retriever, broke a rod, and almost flipped my kayak trying to save one $4 crankbait. 2 Quote

I lose plenty, but still come out way ahead because of what they save. I tried a telescoping pole and it was nearly impossible for me to store and use in a kayak. I have a hard enough time using them from a boat. Quote
