Hi Everyone,

I am considering ordering a rod from Loomis Edge, I'm thinking about the First Strike or Black Widow. Does anyone own any or have any experience's with these rods. I am considering a crankbait rod, the  FSC CBG 7104-1. Being these are Gary Loomis rods , I am assuming they are top notch, but I would love to get some feedback before pulling the trigger on one.

I live 25 minutes from the Edge site in Woodland.  Their show room was almost done when I was there.  I ordered an Epitone 725C.  It’s expected around late November.  It appears the production focus is on blanks for builders.  Actual in house building is secondary at this point, thus the delays.  I liked what I saw.

You might be better served by identifying the blank and having a different custom rod builder put it together for you. From everything I've read, it will almost certainly be faster and you can make tweaks to handle length/material, thread color, reel seat, ect...

I never had a custom rod built before, there is a tackle shop that I have used for guide repair,  I am pretty sure he does custom rods. I am going to inquire about the process. Thanks.

Superb rods/blanks.  I own 1 Delta series, 6 First Strike, and 2 Black Widows.  The only gripe people frequently have with Edge is the wait time to receive your rod(s).  If you order during the christmas sale....it will be mid march  before you get it.

You should see it about next summer...........

Yikes, it's a good thing the deep crankbait bite where I am doesn't start until June. I emailed them asking for an ETA and a rep did respond pretty quickly stating around first week of December. ?

I have the 806 cbr....it has a great taper and is crazy light.  I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the composite model..

The Epitone is intriguing. The weights released on them are insane but I’m really unsure if the guides. I’m sure they work but the appearance is just weird and kind of ugly. I can’t wait to hear peoples reviews in a few months though.

I've considered their rods a few times but honestly their website sucks and it's hard to know what is what. Their length and power numbers seem weird so I just decided to pass on them.  I have some of their blanks and they seem great but it took 3 months for delivery after I ordered them.

I do want to try one of their higher end rods, I guess that is the Black Widow line, which uses the HM blanks? Which line uses the X-Ray blank, the Epitone? I can't find those on the website, but I guess they aren't out yet.

I'm assuming the BWC MBR 735 would be their highest end 7'3" texas rig rod available right now?

I may have misunderstood the rep I spoke with, I wanted a crankbait rod that did not have any glass. I called today to confirm, I got the rep on the phone  and he was very nice but did tell me the rod I ordered is a composite , but also told me it would be unlike any other glass composite available on the market . Long story short we discussed the 806 cbr and I winded up ordering  that one as well, which he had shipped out around 2 hours after the conversation. So far I am very happy with Edge rods in terms of customer service, I just need to do something about the bait monkey wanting crankbait rods, hopefully this is it for a while.

UPDATE: Rods arrived today in one piece, the 806 is very nice, I can tell from handling and inspecting it, that I have a winner. I will be utilizing the if you don't like it for any reason return policy for the 7104, that composite blank is just not for me,it's very similar to other glass rods as far a blank diameter and parabolic bend. Both rods are very lightweight and workmanship is impeccable and the carbon handle is intriguing,  so far it seems very comfortable,  I'm looking forward to seeing how it influences sensitivity. For me, once you go graphite for cranking there is no going back. Overall, I would definitely  purchase another rod from them.

Sweet.  I knew you'd approve of the 806.  I think folks (like me) usually order from edge during a sale when they are backed up with orders....hence the longer wait times.  Glad you got them quick....it's encouraging to others thinking of trying them.

I think.all Black Widow rods are built on the IM blanks nowdays.  The line used to be a mix of IM and HM models.  The epitome is their highest end model and uses the new 'x-ray air carbon' blank.  They only have the 7-2" MH at this point.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm going to have to order one to try out, maybe I will get the Epitone, it seems to be about the weight range I am looking for.

I just noticed the Silver Widow rods on their site, the 736 MBR looks interesting. I can't log in or register an account on their site and my NFC account apparently doesn't transfer over so I'm not getting the sale info.  I'm going to have call them this week and order a couple of rods to try out.

Well, you have a good idea of what you are getting....you know the blanks and the wiebe reel seat (delta is different seat).  I have 2 706's and a 786 in the first strike series.  They are IM blanks.  Both models are a little bit tip heavy, but I still really like them.  All my rods were purchased in 2015 though (except the delta), and I'm sure they have been tweaked since then.
