I was able to find a Fuego LT2000S-XH from Croatia (on the auction site) a while back and jumped on it like a pit bull on a poodle. I paid $119 with tax and shipping (ordered it on a Friday afternoon and received it the following Monday at noon). I love not having to use backing and filling it with way less than I normally would with those silly "D" spools they keep foisting on us here on the USDM models. There's one on there right now for $5 more than I paid. I don't think they believe we want the "D" spools as much as I think they love to see us buying ridiculous amounts of line ? I insist on the high speed models for the times they run straight at me in open water and I need to take up the slack muy pronto, or just for chunking weightless wacky Senkos, letting them drop and set for a few seconds and wind 'em right back in and fire them off again. 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted October 4, 2022 Super User Posted October 4, 2022 I fish a couple of spinning set ups with lighter crankbaits. Smaller size, lower gear ratios and moderate rods seem to be the ticket. That means only 70-80yds of backing instead of 140-150yds...also means only one large spool of backing line instead of having to get two large spools cause one wasn't quite enough. The shallower spools is becoming more standard with the Shimano Spinning reels. I like the shallower spools. Most if not all of the difference between a Shimano 3000 and a 2500 is the spool. Reel size, ratio and weights are the same 3000/2500. 1 Quote

craww Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 The Fuego keeps coming up- need to keep in mind it’s a reel that’s made for saltwater applications, as Daiwa illustrates by putting it in their “saltwater spinning reel” category on their US website. There are a TON of folks in specifically in the US market that use it for such, like myself. Line capacity matters in that arena. I absolutely love that my 4000 holds its own inshore fishing, and can also crossover into general fresh water stuff at just 8.6 ounces….with a large arbor that does help with distance. That’s a VERY rare niche that virtually no manufacturer offers. Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 6, 2022 Super User Posted October 6, 2022 The U.S. Reel (out of business) SuperCaster 186 & 230 XL series spinning combine both high speed IPT with oversized spool diameter. Sometimes a new in box U.S. XL shows up on eBay a round $50, good reels for FC line use. Tom Quote
