Super User Catt Posted September 29, 2022 Super User Posted September 29, 2022 My dog is in recovery so he made a list to God on things he will change. Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good dog. 1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it! up. 2. I will not roll-on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell. 3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar. 4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'. 5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff. 6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet. 7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying "hello". 8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table. 9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after. 10. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt. 11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch. 12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing. P.S. Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back? 3 1 19 Quote

Lily has yet to internalize this lesson. We tell her all the time that she's gonna keep messing with these cats until one of them hurts her, but she don't listen. Eventually the cats make her listen, and she cries and runs back to us with the cat (usually Bean) stapled to her face or neck (or both), giving her the business the whole way back. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 29, 2022 Super User Posted September 29, 2022 We can't do cats. Nothing against them really. Judging by what happens to the local rabbit population, it just wouldn't be a good idea. #dirtnap A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted September 29, 2022 Super User Posted September 29, 2022 We have three dogs and all of these apply except for the litterbox and catfood, though if you make them dog related I got you covered. Two of the dogs are wirehair types (wirehaired vizsla and slovak rough haired pointer) so beards and facial hair. The vizsla LOVES putting her face in your crotch to say hi. That's her comfort place. She is also the face rubber on the couch after she gets wet. The slovak LOVES furry animals. She has an intense fur drive in the field and she does not back off in the house. Our friends have two cats and we once took the dog over their house. They hadn't locked the cats in the basement so the slovak stared at the catflap all night. The cat made an appearance and only through fleet of foot and a large chair do they still have two cats. The third dog is a lab. A food greedy, roll in everything, 2 year old lab. She's a sweetheart- until she comes in after having eaten another dog's poop and rolled in a dead toad. Then she just wants to lick you face because she's so happy with the treats you let her have. A month ago she managed to get into the Vizsla's food bin in a closed cabinet. She ate 5 lb of dry food and bloated herself so badly that the vet had to force her to throw up for an hour. Dogs. We'll never be without them. 1 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted September 29, 2022 Super User Posted September 29, 2022 We put our 2nd Weimaraner down about 4 months ago. Still deciding on what we want next. He was a big boy weighing in at 110lbs and did a fine job of protecting the house. We have 3 cats (not by choice) and he was fine with them although Weimaraners are known cat killers. Daughter raises working GSDs but I’m not keen on the breed for us. We’ve had back to back Weimaraners and they were both great so I’m leaning towards that breed again. 1 Quote
galyonj Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I've only made the acquaintance of one Weimaraner, but he was pretty rad. Quote

We had a big male named Blue when I was a kid. He was a sweetheart, and a good boy, usually. My father kept an upright freezer downstairs for venison, and the bottom quarter of it was a roll out drawer where other things were kept. One day right before Easter he figured out how to open that drawer. He ate several pounds of butter and every single chocolate Easter bunny my mom had bought and froze a few days earlier. The aftermath was truly awesome. He slept in the bedroom with my brother and me, and we had to keep the windows open and sleep under the covers for several days afterward. His silent, noxious, butter/chocolate dogfarts could stop your heart. 5 hours ago, A-Jay said: We can't do cats. Neither can we. Ours was bred to trap boar and mountain lions. She'll try to tackle cardboard cutout cats she sees during Halloween. Just crazed. Our entire walk is her looking for cats in every spot she's spotted them in the past. 3 3 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted September 29, 2022 Super User Posted September 29, 2022 Our cat is scared to death of the 2 dogs, a pit and chiwawa. The pit is very passive towards the cat, but the cat hides from it. ..the chiwawa is very playful because it’s still technically a puppy, but the cat’s not having it either… The dogs continually eat all the cat’s food on the trip in and out to P and P . They got into one of my garbage bags and a old pillow this week that someone left out there to get thrown away… The chiwawa gets into a barking match with the “ bumpus dogs” acrost our canal. The pit could care less. The “bumpus” dogs are the same ones that the nieghbors usually let out about the time I go out to fish each time. Their leader is a vociferous Beagle…? Quote

My beagle type dog was quite vociferous this morning . My wife said “bring Bo in, he’s making that noise he does before he starts digging” I think it’s his “I found a mole and I need another catch dog to kill it” sound because he does it with his nose in the ground 32 minutes ago, PhishLI said: We had a big male named Blue when I was a kid. My brother lives in passyunk south Philly. He had this tiny little white dog forever, sweetest thing ever, didn’t make a sound……… until she saw a cat. Then the poor thing would just come unglued barking, it would scare you every time because she was normally silent 1 1 Quote
detroit1 Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 I hope for a full recovery for your buddy Catt. I enjoy everyone's stories, keep them coming. We love our critters... Quote
Woody B Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 Our neighbors stole my beagle one night. They wanted me to know what it was like to live next door to someone who's dog barks all night. Our Yorkie is very calm and well behaved. You can tell by the way she's dangling on my cargo shorts in this picture. 1 1 Quote

Holy smokes, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a word of that calibre on here before! Of course, you are a moderator, I guess that’s how you get that job on here, being able to use words like vociferous so freely ? 3 Quote

Limited breeders in the US but not hard to import if you can’t find a domestic dog. guarding the snackhole at our friends house. 1 Quote

Roger's APBT mixed with some sort of gremlin, best we can tell; and we dunno what kind of mix Lily is, but she's APBT and something. Our cats don't have any patience for these dogs. Bean – the small one – will staple herself to Lily's face and ride her to the ground, then lap up her doggy tears of shame. Roger doesn't really step to the cats anymore, but I remember one time he thought he'd run up on Mo, who turned on him and slapped the taste out of his mouth, then kept working him until she'd backed him up all the way across the house. They're all rescues. Mo's the only animal I've ever had that I picked out at birth. 1 Quote
VolFan Posted September 30, 2022 Posted September 30, 2022 We have a three year old lab and two four year old cats (Bryce Harper and Weeks). Side note - Do NOT let young children name your pets. The dog thinks she’s a cat. The cats do not agree with that assessment. The dog will jump straight up in the air when she sees a robin or squirrel within range. Just about broke my face when I leaned over to pick up a gift on a walk. Head butted me right across the nose. Dogs are great ? Quote

Lily gave me a Glasgow kiss the first time we tried to cut her nails. I thought she'd rebroken my nose, but it's not any crunchier sounding than it usually is, so I guess I survived. Quote

Judging by what happens to the local rabbit population, it just wouldn't be a good idea. #dirtnap We had a garden variety white bunny growing up. Once in a while it would get left out of the hutch at night or while we were away. We learned to worry more about the cats than the rabbit. I can't tell you how many times a cat thought it was a good idea to mess with that rabbit and found out they were wrong. We would find circular areas filled with tufts of various colors of fur. . . cat fur, not bunny fur. We could tell what type of cat they were by the color of the fur balls. From my experience, judging by the amount of fur left behind, it takes a lot of convincing to change a cat's mind, LOL. Sometimes there would be two or three fur circles with different colors of fur in each one. I don't know, maybe the cats liked it ;~) 1 Quote
