Just saw the new Sleeper Gills at my local tackle shop......OP you should give these a good look.   Pricey but they looked fantastic, and the size seemed perfect on them to catch both big and regular fish.

i watched a few videos on this today

I have two at the house.

I am for sure learning and what you said makes sense. Sometimes it takes something different? I know a lot of people say to match the bait in the water

That surely happens, probably for about half of every single day

The SK Tour Grade in BG has earned a spot in my jig A box, not sexy (ha), but it gets the job done.

I just started getting into swim jigs a couple of weeks ago. They truly are a 4x4 jig. It's probably my favorite moving bait for grass or when conditions aren't right for a spinnerbait. You can cover the whole water column and pitch 'em too.

Okay so I went down and found the bait I was talking about, along with a few others I think would be great as well depending on water color/clarity

Mattlures is who makes this nice one.   Thing is huge, and unless somebody has DD fish swimming beneath them, kind of pointless to throw imo.   Ironically I have DD Bass in the main lake I fish, but just don't want to lose it haha.

caught goofing around after some less than stellar bass catching results.

I'm consistently surprised at what a bass is willing to eat in terms of size and what's nice about that mattlures bg is that the profile is shortened a bit in height, meaning hookups on 3lb ish bass is a little better.  I currently use the SG 4" RTF pulse tail because the size is more versatile and the price more affordable. Gold gill looks like a good match.

That said, a dirty jigs swim jig in 3/8-3/4oz w/ a gambler or d walker is my favorite and most successful panfish imitator.

I looked up that website after I posted the lures, and was surprised to see them in business with lots more offering, and seemingly about the same price as 20 years ago.

I'm going to try one of these out, they just look too much like the real thing.

I didn't get a lot of time in with them this year, but the hits/fish I did get, absolutely hammered it.  Prespawn till post spawn, straight retrieve from shallow to deep was where it shined, usually the first deeper water ambush cover.  The swim is subtle but a little nose up, which seems off to me.  They do stay upright on the bottom, which might make them a cold water creeper.

like of the ones sitting in the bottom shelf at walmart cheap?

I’m a fan of the pb&j colored spinner baits and the Strike King finesse swim jig both bought off the bottom shelf at my local Wal Mart.EE9B2EDE-35CB-4440-8E9E-5C91E857E429.thumb.jpeg.b656b2bc7e155e50fa80ab22f836cb3a.jpeg

I have seen these and will probably be grabbing a few.  For the price it’s hard to beat.

Forgot to add the house brand Ozark Trails crank baits and lipless crank baits from Wal-Mart, the crank baits run pretty true right from the package have decent/sharp eagle claw hooks and hit just the right depth to not get hung on weeds the whole time in the retention ponds I fish.31039EC7-4A19-403D-871B-5C46141B32E3.thumb.jpeg.fb23bc2a505ae26a8155f7cae40dc7f3.jpeg

Going to add 2 things in regards to the lures I mentioned. First this is the jig available by me and secondly the crank baits I mentioned the finish chips pretty easily so I think I’ve read clear nail polish  should help if you’re banging rocks or branches quite a bit.0E8B2EF5-2610-44B2-89DE-65DC3FAF6E8F.jpeg.321883158ed30c8d7c3d3352b94af300.jpeg
