I just bought a Scorpion 70 from Digitaka for $148 and change, free shipping. Arrived in three days. Outstanding casting distance with the weights you mentioned and even a bit lighter. JDM is the way to fly right now with the exchange rates.

is the 70 “better”

unless I am wrong the 150 is newer

I am looking for something to cast l1/3 and 1/4 ounce lures

Are you are referring to the range 1/4 ro 1/3 oz lures? If so, any decent reel should be able to handle that.

I own both and have wondered the same thing. The 150 isn't any heavier either. Both have the same features, too. They both cast great and have great ergos. Two more brake tabs on the 150 also. The 150 has a 6:1 option that the 70 doesn't unless you go with the JDM Scorpion which has the heavier non MGL spool.

@The Bassman @GreenPig can either cast 1/3 oz lures well?  Possibly some slightly heavier ned rigs?

Yeah I tried to cast a smithwick that was 1/3 oz and had a hard time. I am sure I need to work on my casting don’t get me wrong.

Yes either cast 1/3 oz with the right rod. I regularly throw 1/8 Spinnerbaits and 1/10 Ned TRD's on my 70 MGL.

Both reels are fine for the lure weight. I would be more concerned about the rod.

For that weight,  I would go with a 7' M Fast and no braid, either mono or FC.

Since they're pretty much the same reel, with the 70 being smaller - this is an answer I saw...somewhere.

"Fitting everything into the smaller reel frame is more difficult to construct from an engineering aspect,"

The one bearing difference? I'd have to know where it is.

Example is the Fuego CT and the Tatula CT...basically the same reel (frame, spool, main gears) but the Tat has two more bearings....in the crank handles - so no real difference in performance other than T-Wing vs Aperture.

OK, good to know.
I was using a Daiway Tatula 100HS

It did have braid (i just cut it off for 15lb fluro the only fluro i have)

The rod was Shimano SLXCX610M

Power Medium
Action Extra Fast

70MGL cost more  because 2 bearings on the knob, a little bit better component like star drag. The extra 30 dollars really depends on what you want from the reels.
If you want extra line capacity to use with bigger line 12-15lb and doesn’t care for physical size of the reel, 150MGL might be the way to go.

If you only use 8-10lb Copolymer, and only use for light weight lure, 70MGL might be better investment. At full spool of line, 70 spool will weight less make it easier to cast and control light weight lure. Smaller line will help with distance. Smaller spool need less line, less backing problem.

Like other already mentioned, light weight lure, the rod also play important role.
