Looking to throw a 3/16 micro jig w/trailer and was looking for input on what rod you would use and why. Most fishing will be done without much for obstructions. Watched some videos on YouTube and seen everything from ML spinning to MH casting for recommendations. I will be using a spinning reel for these but need help with the right setup. I was thinking ML or M 6'6" or 7"

ML spinning is perfect for 3/16 oz.

I use 6' alot off the bank and a 7'-6" for 1/16oz hair jigs

You need a tip just soft enough and short enough to throw the weight, but that's where it ends.  To transmit the feel needed to fish the lure, the mid needs to be long and fast, the rod needs to be light-in-hand.

The longer you go, generally, the longer the soft tip will be, which you don't want.

A few exceptions are long Japanese rods specifically made for shore micro-jigging.

Maybe @Eric 26 can chime in on his 13Fishing ML spinner.

I fish the 7'1" bait version Omen Green ML, and it would meet all the tests - I always say I can feel every blade of grass through this rod.

Here's the major-long, wide-lure-range Japanese shore micro-jigging rod with MH power -

- Not Recommending this rod, just showing the example.

A 3/16 oz jig plus trailer is going to be well over 1/4oz. I don't see why you couldn't use a Medium powered spinning or casting rod with that. With jigs, even small ones, I want something with enough power in the butt section to hammer the hook home.

What's the budget?  Are you leaning towards spinning or casting?

I use a 6'8'' Med Fast St. Croix Legend Elite and a Daiwa Steez SV TW for those sized jigs.

Agree with the line of thought that 3/16 oz with a trailer isn’t micro. If you’re tossing hair without a weed guard, then I would agree a ML would be fine, or a M if you prefer. If we’re talking traditional silicon rubber jig with a weed guard and trailer, M is as light as I’d go, and maybe even MH. I throw my 3/16 traditional finesse jigs with baitcasters, but use spinning for my hair jigs and true micro jigs. On length, 6’6” would likely be base case, then adjust up or down depending on your specific situation and preference.

I’ll start by saying im not sure what your budget is but I have the 13 fishing fate black 7’-1” med light ($79.99). I have it paired with a close out 13 fishing creed 2000 size reel with 8 lb braid and I love this budget combination. I mainly throw 1/16 ounce Ned heads with a z-man trd which isn’t the lightest of trailers. I’ve also thrown 1/16 ounce roadrunner heads with a 3” gulp alive body which is by far lighter. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this rod as @bulldog1935 did for me based on his upgraded version of the rod.

With the micro jigs that I use I would absolutely not go with anything over a ML power. The hooks on most micro jigs are too small, and will bend out if using a M or MH. I actually fish most of my micro jigs on UL or L casting rods. If I were using one of my spinning rods I would likely use my Daiwa Tatula Elite 7'6" ML hair jig rod.

Thank you everyone for your responses...much appreciated. Specifically I will be throwing the Z-Man micro jig with some type of zman finesse trailer...TRD, Hawgz, Crawz etc. I have alot of current rods to select from currently I just didn't know which one to grab. I might start with my 6'6" M and try a 6'6" ML if I don't like it.

I think that's a good choice.  The schrooms micro finesse jig is basically a skirted ned rig when it comes to hook.  A medium would be a good shout.

Agree.  Too often there is never an update.  I always like to know how someone makes out.  Who knows.  Maybe I will benefit from the knowledge gained.
