I would be interested in most anything a pro has to say here. The lifestyle, and comments on fishing too. The pros live a different lifestyle than many of us. They also fish differently than many of us do.

I haven't read through all the answers but I like the idea (especially in the winter months) of live "fire side chats".  Sit down with these guys live and just open it up.  If necessary, have a lottery sign up and pick BR members randomly to be able to sign in and just chat with these guys.  Tell stories, ask questions, just BS with them.  Record the whole thing and put it out when it's done.  You can bet if you had Rojas or Ish, I'd sure as heck be asking frog questions.  Probably even bribe to let me on!

Yeah admiring a fellow angler who has figured out a way to make a million dollars in a year doing something we love to do as 5 year olds is weird......why can't these people just worship Lebron or Tom Brady like normal folks

When I attended a Bassmaster Elite AOY weigh in back in 2015 and 2016 at Mille Lacs, one of the best parts was when each angler came up to weigh in and talk briefly to Dave Mercer about their day of fishing.  Some of them were more detailed and willing to talk than others, but I found it fascinating.  I especially remember KVDs answer.  He said he had never seen such an underfished smallmouth factory with so many old, big fish at the time.  He also said everything possible should be done to preserve it for future anglers too.  Before he left the stage he mentioned that he had caught about a 20 pound northern pike in practice with a jerkbait and to him that was a very rare fish that he thought could only still be caught in Canada.

 

Some of them really had almost nothing to say at all though too.  They were like a tree stump standing on stage and would barely nod.

every industry.  if you are the best, you are making money.  i have a passing admiration for pro fishermen.  sure.  it stops there.  i only know a few names, and that is from their youtube channels.  i've never watched a bass tournement on TV.

 

Take Martha Stewart.  she became a millionaire showing us how to fold towels.    skills.

 

if i were to talk to an outdoorsman.  i would pick Steven Rinella.  that dude can tell a story!!

I don't understand why this idea is contentious?  Would I like an opportunity to chat with someone that has a higher skill level at something I LOVE to do?  Sure.  Would I like to BS with an old-timer like Bill Dance or Roland Martin?  Sure.  If Glenn happened to spotlight someone I didn't care for, is it necessary for me to be involved?  Nope.  I don't worship any of these people but I can and do admire their skill level or simply that they seem like neat people that would be fun to BS with.  Good Lord....like them or not, would any us of turn down a chance to spend a day fishing with Bill Dance, Roland Martin, KVD, or even Iaconelli?  I wouldn't.

To be fair, they should do whatever they’d like to do. The majority of us will eat it up no matter what medium it is. So if Hank Parker wants to do podcasts, cool. If Rick Clunn wants to have a Q&A session, cool.

I was going to jokingly say pay Tom or Catt instead, but you don't have to. That's my point and that is what I prefer. The pros probably lurk here and use our info anyways

Pros ain't all that. Example: speaking of B-Lat, I subscribed to his Youtube channel for a bit. I got tired of seeing his (adorable) 2 year old son running around freely on the boat deck with no PFD on a cold windy choppy day while Dad ignored him to make his video.

 

It really bummed me out, so no I don't think the pros have anything more to offer than the people already here. My 2 cents.

So maybe a video linked into a thread with a few time windows where they will respond to questions about the technique. For example Brandon Palaniuk talking about spy baits, or KVD talking about spinnerbaits, etc. are ones I would really appreciate. We do have some with spinnerbait PHD's on here already:)

I think it would be nice to have a pro around. I watched a video by Roland Martin the other night, him just idling around and showing how to find a school of fish in current. He was basically worm fishing on the edge of vegetation while talking about the location, technique, the current, and so forth. Next thing, he changes up to a chatterbait, still talking and bam! A fish just shy of 10lbs slams his lure. Don't see that everyday! He positioned himself correctly to be in the money. He "knew" just what to do. That kind of knowledge is golden, in my opinion, no matter what anyone says. I'm sure there's plenty of folks on this site who know a few things but these pros know a heck of a lot and can share much wealth to all. I'd say go for it!

While I really don't care about professional fisherman (weekend anglers who pay for their own tackle are my heroes) I would like to hear their true opinion on the use of technology against years of experience and knowledge and how they will soon be replaced by kids playing videogames.

I would enjoy some of the top-shelf old guard , like Dance, Martin, Houston, etc. Or most any Florida pro like Grigsby, Scott Martin, etc.

  Not sure of the format, but it would need to be better than asking questions and not getting a response…

If I'm remembering correctly, back in the Bass Fishing Homepage days, there were a few pros on there. I realize that Bass Resource is a lot more heavily moderated (rightfully so I might add) and it wouldn't happen here, but they were all pretty much ran off.

Q and A sessions on a podcast with preselected questions BUT let us suggest and then vote on the questions.  If it is a chat you might end up getting a lot of questions along the lines of "What pound line do you use for spinnerbaits" or "What is your favorite color jerkbait?" which have value but can easily be Googled.  If we get access to a pro, we need to ask higher level thinking questions like tournament strategy, making adjustments on the water, dealing with changing conditions and seasons, dealing with adversity, misconceptions in bass fishing, examples of good and poor decisions he's made, lessons that took him a long time to learn, ect. ect,

@BASSRESOURCE I think there's a reason why most (that I've seen) "pros'" YouTube channels do as good or worse than other regular dudes fishin - they don't really offer anything different/not readily available/or actual insights/tips/secrets from years of experience and they don't have the showmanship. One or the other makes the difference - both is a brilliant channel.

 

TOO Many anglers keep their fishing tricks of the trade a secret, and that's why it'll end up a dying art - at least technology can help replace the secrets your keeping.

 

 

Tacticalbassin got so mega huge because they have both - genuine lure modifications that most people wouldn't just think of and logical explanations for why they choose to do what they do. Plus they have a good relatable presence. Randy Blaukat seems to offer some real experience and underwater (not underground;) tips. But almost every pro I've watched is like "this is how I fish a ______" and then they explain it like the other 50 channels do - no real tips or tricks or secrets of the art.

 

Like someone else said here an old timer willing to really reveal the off the books off label unspoken secrets that those of us who don't have a grandfather or dad who fished will never get access to would be the way to go.

 

Or like a lot of other people said - a regular dude without a questionable motive (sponsorship) for saying certain things, just someone who fishes and can explain it well and keep our attention. I've seen some good channels with great info not get much fanfare because they just don't balance it with anything entertaining enough to keep/hook people.

 

Really enjoyed this thread, oh and almost forgot to mention that those who said something about bass biology and ecology and all that are in the money as well - but again, people well versed in those topics dont tend to have enough charisma to build a following.

Overall, there’s enough content out there already that I won’t find much interest in a pro-related series. I’d find more intrigue in them just becoming a part of the board as posting members than needing them to create standalone content.

I would rather see guides, or local anglers, talk about techniques, or the bodies of water they are familiar with.
