clemsondds Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Going out next week to a new lake in the southeast. Trying to put together my plan. it got me thinking, when you first come to the lake in the early Fall…what’s your top baits? Do you like to cover water or go straight deep? I know plans can change when you get there but I always like to have an initial plan. Just wondering what you have had good luck with. Quote

Super User scaleface Posted September 18, 2022 Super User Posted September 18, 2022 Heres five lures that have done well for me in past autumns Red Eye Shad fished deep on points . Three of the last four years my largest bass of the year was caught this way Bomber Model A crankbait . Dont know why but it is particularly effective in the fall Texas rigs are good all year and fall is no exception Buzzbaits are my favorite lure and shine in fall . Spinnerbait . If bass are not pouncing all over a buzzbait then a spinnerbait may be the ticket . 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted September 18, 2022 Super User Posted September 18, 2022 1. Spinnerbait 2. Popper like a Pop Max or Chug Bug 3. Creature or craw style bait 4. Jig 5. Walking bait like Skitterwalk or Zara Spook 1 Quote

Aaron_H Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Lipless crankbait Super Spook Jr Whopper Plopper Jerkbait Chatterbait That fall transition has them feeding heavily on baitfish in the upper/middle water column, so that's what I try to primarily target. Quote

Woody B Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 No need for 5. In no particular order. Crankbait for whatever depth the fish are at. Texas rig. (24-7-365) Devil's Horse Spinnerbait. 2 Quote

It all hinges on what part of the country you live in. What I'd throw in PA in November is completely different than what I'm throwing on the Big O. It's definitely not a one size fits all. I mentioned southeast…but you can pick wherever. Just curious what your favorite fall baits are. Quote
Finessegenics Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Mostly the same baits I really like all year: Spinnerbait Ned rig 3"-4" swimbait on exposed hook or EWG Crankbait Fluke* Only one that's different for me is a fluke, it really seems to produce better for me in the fall. 1 Quote
GRiver Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I really don’t have a top five for fall, I do seem to throw more tubes during the fall. When the water starts to cool down, I find myself pitching bulkier baits. Not sure if that works every where. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 19, 2022 Super User Posted September 19, 2022 What is fall seasonal period to bass? It isn’t the fall we know, it’s a change to the basses enviornment, not ours. Bass react to water temperatures and changes to aquatic plant growth that moves their prey source. My routine is to determine the actual seasonal period the lake is in at the time on the water. Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted September 19, 2022 Super User Posted September 19, 2022 One bait that really seems to excel for me starting in the fall is a jig worm. Just a 4-5" worm with a 1/32 or 1/16 head w/#1 hook. I find healthy grass and basically just work it through the holes and gaps slowly. When it gets stuck I snap it free and let it fall, lots of times that when it gets hit. The light head and small hook are essential so the bait doesn't bog down. It works for me when they wont hit anything else. 1 Quote
Functional Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I can tell you at least in the fishing I've done the past few weekends in NC, we are not in a fall pattern yet. Water temps still in the mid to low 80s. These cooler nights have been drawing them in closer for longer in the mornings but once the sun comes out and 9/10ish rolls around its back to pulling teeth in the summer pattern. personally, id try some of the faster moving stuff (spinner, chatter, buzz bait, crankbait) and top water like a walking bait or popper until late morning (or poor fishing) and then transition into the T-Rigs, jigs and a slow rolled spinner...possibly even a NED if I was desperate. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 19, 2022 Super User Posted September 19, 2022 I fish the same baits that I do the rest of the year, but the ranking will change depending on the time of year and conditions. 1. Crankbaits 2. Spinnerbaits 3. Jigs 4. Texas Rigs 5. Topwater Baits Quote
PBBrandon Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Doesn’t matter what I throw at first, after 30 minutes a Texas rigged senko is gonna magically appear on the end of my line. jokes aside I love Whopper ploppers and squarebills this time of year 2 Quote
