@Mobasser has posted several threads about Mepps spinners in the last few months. I finally decided to buy a few and try them out. Finally got to go fishing in a creek today. I had caught one LMB on a Crazy Legs Chigger Craw. I finally decided to switch and throw a Mepps spinner. On the first cast I caught a 16" 2# SMB. That is the first SMB I have caught in 3 or 4 years. I realize that isn't a big fish for a lot of you but for me that doesn't get to fish that often It made me feel good. Made a few more casts and caught another smaller one. The bite died out after that. I did catch a couple more smaller ones later on. Guess now the Bait Monkey will try to get me to go buy some more of them. Wonder how well the LMB like them?

The LMB will like them for sure. You can catch anything on those things

Log Catcher, I'm glad to hear that the old Mepps are working out well for you. I've been having some fun with them this summer also. If you throw them again, keep me posted.

And yes to your question. LM will hit them very well also.

I love the Mepps spinner. I had a couple 200+ smallmouth days (That's more than 200 fish per day.) in northwestern Ontario. I fished from four in the morning to nearly ten and caught nearly every fish on a Mepps spinner with a brass blade and a plain hook, which is the most basic Mepps spinner made. On the third day, I rested, too tired to do it again.

I've caught some thick largemouth on the same Mepps this summer in Maine, both casting and trolling. It's a great lure and underutilized, I think.

When people think Mepps, they think trout. I don't recall catching bass on them, but I've caught many a pike.

Yeah, I can't think of a fish that won't bite them. The only drawback to them is they don't come through cover very well, but on larger ones strategically tied bucktail on a double hook makes for a decent weed guard.

I was using a Black Fury size 3 yellow dot with a dressed treble when I caught those fish. I caught a lot of fish on the old Shyster and Toni spinnerbaits back in the 60s and 70s. I quit using inline spinner when I bought some Rooster Tails. I can not catch a fish on them so I just never tried any others until now. I'm glad I did. I also bought the white dot and an orange dot to try.

There are forever new and shiny lures and it's easy to forget the old ones which work as well today as they did half a century ago.
