Had a less than stellar morning at the lake. Feel my head was in it. Really thought I approached it right. Had my share of hits, bites, hookups and lost fish. Did land a few on soft craws, 13”-15” fish but I was hoping for bigger. Wind got out of hand and was gonna pull the plug.

I’m a long time old school Bomber fan. Recently picked up a few of the Gen 2 crankbaits. Did not have high expectations because they were $3.99 each and not sure with the new color pattern to work out. I was drawn to two of the Shad patterns and threw fat free fingerlings, Guppy and Model a’s. They ran perfectly without issue. I picked up a couple of more fish with them in the wind. To my surprise these $3.99 cb’s were successful. I’m not impressed with their color patterns but surprised with the way they ran. But as far as patterns I guess it is that the fish like and not what I like. Just wanted to pass on how well the ran and the depths I got with them.

Things are not what they were 20 or more years ago. Bomber was a complete different company. I could pull my Bomber trays out and the patterns were a lot more extensive and greater options. But times have changed. This Gen 2 my be necessary for them to survive as a company. For $3.99 they are worth the try. In my mind the two Shad patterns caught my eye and in my head I had confidence they would be ok as long as they ran ok. Hope other patterns work for y’all. Bombers are more of a river bait for me. I’ll throw those on Monday for a bit on the river. I can’t get out between now and than.

Bomber is one of several lure companies bought out by Pradco several years ago. When they buy a company you can count on them ruining the brand. They will take away a lot of colors cheapen the manufacturing process usually raise the prices.

Guys just adding a post that these new Gen 2 Bombers are still catching some fish for me. Caught a few river Smallies today on them. Had quite a few that were curious but no takers. No bragging size fish but they worked. Fished two different patterns of the Guppy and 6a.

I’m catching fish but struggling on the size I want. Have not been finding them on specific locations. Today I slow drifted a bank with stone and wood. But fished fairly shallow 5-8 feet. Thought a beauty might be hugging the bank.

But anyway these lures run true and I have to believe they are getting down to where they are suppose to run because I make contact with them. I’m not gonna dis the hooks because they are sticky. Might be a cheaper Eagle Claw version but are sharp out to the hang cards.

There is not a great selection of patterns. Patterns available are new and older Bomber patterns are not part on the Gen 2’s. A few that I’m throwing quite a bit the finish is holding up well. Holding up great really. In a lot of stone with them. For $3.99  the couple of patterns I chose, I have no complaints. Hope Bomber expands Gen 2’s into some of the older patterns. Or just into some common patterns among manufacturers. $3.99 what can I say. They exceed my expectations.

Bomber is certainly not what it was 20+ years ago for sure. I continue to throw many old baits but to my surprise the new Gen 2’s do have some quality behind them.
