My name's Mike and I started fishing two years ago thanks to a loaner boat and rod from a cabin rented in the ADKs. It was the worst financial decision of my life.

Always wanted to catch bass when I was a kid, so now I'm teaching myself. Recently bought a kayak; someone it seems that being in a boat has made me forget everything about fishing. Leave me any tips you have for finding fish or positioning the boat!

welcome.

which kayak?  i learned the kayak seems to impart a lot of action on some lure.  i cast out, and let the kayak move the bait sometimes.  all i do is sit there and look handsome.  i might add a twitch here or there.   try to take some advantage to how easily a kayak is pushed about by currents and wind.  you cannot fight it without a stakeout pole or anchor.

Hi from the Sunshine State of Fl.

Never really fished from a Kayak but, I did in Jon boats. If I couldn’t use Mother Nature in my favor, I use tree stakes to hold the boat in place while I fished an area. It was easier than throwing out the anchor, but I did that too. Tree stakes a not too expensive and, work pretty good. I got them at Lowes.

SS127. I learned from mountain bikes to buy something that has great resale value and enjoy is as much as you can. Great so far, though the fiancé and I have taken to calling it the "Fish Assault Platform".

I definitely try to take advantage of the motion of the ocean, though I have a stakeout pole coming so I can slow down and have a bit more control. Less paddling, more casts, less frustration while I figure out how to pick things apart.

Tree stakes--excellent idea. Already ordered a 12' stakeout pole and an anchor trolley.

Any recommendations for your favorite lakes?

Best of luck with the injuries. I hate being laid up!

I fish out of a canoe mostly, but sometimes from a kayak. The guys with motors have a big advantage; They can go far and fast. However, we paddlers have an advantage too: We can go shallow and silently. I have snuck up to multiple fish within two feet of my canoe and kayak. I don't even know they're there until I bump the boat and I see multiple swirls and V's as they flee. So, my advice is don't bump the boat and go where the motorboats can't go. I even put felt on my gunnels so I can lay my paddle ever so carefully and quietly in front of me. And I move with all due caution. Then I can cast to fish that others can't.

In short, fish shallow, fish the weeds, and be sneaky as can be.

Welcome aboard, Mike! Didn't fish the finger lakes much,

but got the worst sunburn of my life while snorkeling on

lake Canandaigua. Oh the horrible memory. Snorkeling

was awesome, but the burn....good heavens.

Honeoye for numbers. I live close to Conesus so that was always my favorite.
