FrogInTheWell Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Do you ever get tired of catching your bass on the same lures? I do, I catch 90% of my fish on Spinnner baits. When I switch it up and go to something else whether its plastics or whatever I simply don't catch much at all ... I wonder if I have gotten myself into a rut? and have lost my touch with other lures? I'm not a tournament fisherman so it's purely recreational for me, if I was fishing for money then I'm sure I wouldn't care what I caught them on, lol. 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 Not at all, while I get a great boost when I catch fish on my non confidence tackle, all that matters to me is catching fish. One of the few things in life that excites me the same way something did as a kid. 6 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I’d just go with it. If you’re catching fish and having fun , you’re winning. 4 Quote
Drawdown Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I like trying new things, and catching on them. It’s not that I get tired of catching them how I’m used to. 1 Quote
PondProwler9000 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Hhhmmm... This is very troubling, Mr. Henry. Maybe consider some professional help. J/k Quote
Super User king fisher Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 No, but right now, I am definitely getting tired of not catching them on the same lures 3 6 Quote
813basstard Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I get tired of not catching them on my favorite bait. Then the bait gets sent to the bullpen..there’s negotiations, agents involved, Twitter acquisitions.. We sign someone else, then they come back in and throw 9 innings of 1 hit ball and we’re back in the matrix again.. 2 3 Quote

But I like catching them on different techniques. I definitely have a habit of leaving fish to catch fish. And sometimes I kick myself for it. Haha. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I dont get really get tired of it, but I know that just taking the safe option and catching fish on something I'm very proficient at doesn't help me become a better angler. 1 Quote

A blade bait (Chatter) works good on the same tackle as a spinnerbait would be a good change. Tom 2 Quote

Lead Head Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 For me, it depends... I will never get tired of catching fish with a jig (my favorite and most used presentation). I will never get tired of catching large fish. If I'm using anything else and start stacking up dinks, I will eventually lose interest and move on. Eventually... after I convince myself there is nothing bigger in the area. It can take a while, because after I finally get tired of the little fish I'll work different/bigger lures in the area trying to see if something larger is hanging around. Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 When you get jaded catching fish, and wondering why you're harassing them without enjoying it, is when you go back out with cane. 2 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 Not at all, I don't choose what lure to use based on "what I want to catch them with", as a result I don't fish just one lure (but also don't fish a ton of different things). 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 I try to use what works the best, based on all the factors. For much of the summer, it's a soft plastic fished slowly near bottom. With fall coming in, this pattern can change. Plus, every fish is a little different, so I don't ever get tired of catching them. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 Ever get tired of catching them.. Perhaps there may have been a time where there was a little bit of this going on in my bass fishing. But once I decided to start targeting mostly only plus size bass, that was no longer the case. Just by percentages there are much fewer of them, so I am working harder for much less bites. Easily makes every catch far more meaningful, at least to me. Especially when the time between 'fishing' & 'catching' can often be hours, days and even weeks. It's not for everybody. A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 I'm in this to catch em, on what doesn't matter! Once I've figured out what they want, I'll feed it to em till they're puking it up. Problem is about the time I think I got em figured out they prove to me I don't! 8 Quote

Super User Bankc Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 If you're not a professional, then do what's most fun for you. Some people chase numbers. Some people chase size. Some people like to constantly fish new lakes with new challenges. Some people like to master one lake. Some people like to catch fish any way they can. Some people like to learn new techniques. And some people just like to practice casting for distance or accuracy. Whatever brings you the most joy is what you should be focused on. And if that changes with time, then change with it. Me? I enjoy being out in nature. I'd rather fish a lake in the woods with no fish in it than fish lake in a busy city park loaded with 10+ pounders that bite anything you throw at them. 4 Quote

Lot of great stuff in this post, especially the last part. Fishing is as much about me being left the heck alone in nature as it is catching fish. I'm also a "Goal fisherman" meaning that I set a goal, work to achieve it, and then find another new goal within the sport. Right now it's to catch a DD LGM and 5lb+ Spot on my home lake. So far this year I've got a 8lb LGM, and 2.4lb Spot. I won't quit until I reach at least one of those goals. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 I maybe sort of get it....maybe not the 'same lures' part, but the almost unconscious desire for variety while bass fishing. Especially if the recent catches aren't sprinkled with some good ones. I don't fish for catfish or carp....I don't sit on a bucket while fishing...I enjoy the endless variables involved in bass fishing. For example, I rarely start with my 'favorite spot' on any body of water. I feel the need to try other areas, if not new lakes. There's areas where I feel I could catch a dozen 10-14" bass on a ned and/or senko, but I'll usually pass them up for an area with far fewer bites, but a chance a 21" on a jig. I have spent a couple hours sitting in a pad field catching one 13" after another on a buzzbait...great fun, but still felt the need or desire to move and/or throw a toad or a worm..... Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 90% spinnerbait?!! i might be 0.5% spinnerbait. i absolutely cannot buy a fish on one!! i feel like it was a gag at this point. "hey, let's sell that guy this spinner thing and tell him it is fantastic..." to be fair, this year has been more bait successes than before. i even had a great crankbait day..and jerkbait day, which is almost crazy talk. Super User FishTank Posted September 14, 2022 Super User Posted September 14, 2022 I keep fishing a bait until they stop biting and go back to it later. Funny, I can't get a bite on a spinnerbait lately. Quote
