I have a couple of questions regarding JDM.   When I see they have zero stock and they have a wish list option,  does that mean they are getting more?  Also,  is the JDM prices usually the cheapest?  Thanks, Joe.

Ya - usually if the listing is still up with zero stock, they plan on replenishing their supply.

Oh definitely - I've got a couple reels just waiting for me to get the money for them.

Tatula SV TW - US retail $200 - Digitaka price $156

Shimano NASCI - US retail $99 - Digitaka price $78 - and it's a model not available here in the States to boot.

Only personal buying experience:

JDM Daiwa Zillion SV TW: $233

USDM Daiwa Zillion SV TW: $365-375 (taxes included)

To say they are cheaper is a huge understatement.   I went JDM and Digitaka without thinking twice.  If these prices hold, and they get a reel or two I wanted that wasn't in stock like the Steez A models, I'm gonna grab it.     I have no idea how long these prices have been like this or will be like this, but I'm sure this won't last forever, or perhaps even very long in the violate world we live in.

You dirty scoundrels kept talking about JDM and provoked the monkey. Now I have a Scorpion 71XG on the way. LOL. I was actually gonna go a little higher end but couldn't find anything I wanted in stock. I really like my Curado and Scorpion 71's, so for $148, I added another. My first order at Digitaka, but it won't be the last. Easy as can be, and free shipping. Heck of a bargain vs a domestic Curado.

Just remember JDM doesn’t come with US warranty and a bit of hassle if you want to return in whatever reason. Other than that enjoy while it last.

I'm out about $500-600 since I joined here a month or two ago, at this rate I'll be posting fish pics from a cardboard shack

Do they still come with a Japanese warranty then?   Like you can't take a JDM to a US dealer to get fixed, but you can send it back to Japan to Daiwa?

Also wonder how long this will last.   I really need another high end spinning reel, and I'd love to add another Steez to the lineup

Do you want to go in 50/50 on a bulk order of cardboard?  I found an old blue tarp, I would be willing to share half of for the rainy days.

I got a couple sheets of 1/8" fiberboard taking up space...pay the shipping and they're yours. :)

the way things are it’s probably cheaper to go buy new fiberboard.

I don’t know, but it would probably be easier to send it to The Tackle Trap or DVT and pay for them to fix whatever is wrong

From what I've read no, they probably  won't accept a didgitaka receipt from what I've read, but for many of the reels the inner components are 99% the same so you will be able to pay to have it serviced.

(P.s) warranties are a joke nowdays anyways and they will probably make you pay the 30$ shipping fee, you could get it serviced in the U.S for that price

Absolutley I'm a budget angler but I can spend 10 on a cheap crankbait here or get a super tuned fancy jdm one with beautiful colors for 6

I guess it depends on which website and which item you're referring to. If a reel is past its popularity, like the 19 Alphas CT SV, they're not getting more of it, as manufactures like Daiwa don't make it anymore. Also, some website gets restocked regularly, some not.

I wanted to get a zillion in the lower ratio but I just don't trust the aluminum gears cranking on the big spinnerbaits and crankbaits.

Do what you want, but do you think the resistance of a spinner or crank bait puts more stress on gears than winding in a fighting fish? Don't be silly. These aren't the junk micro-module aluminum gears in the '16 Met, and a member here with 2 two year old JDM Gs has said several times that his are still smooth as when new.

I think this is the best response to the aluminum vs brass gears I’ve seen since I’ve joined this site. Also @bulldog1935 has explained this very debate extremely well.

I really don't think that is something you need to worry about at all. These are Daiwa's workhorse reels and built to last a long time of hard use.

But look at it another way, you're getting a $350 reel for $235ish and you can get a set of brass gears for $60. If in 4 or 5 years of hard use your gears wear out, you can buy a new set and still be $50 ahead. ?

Just other side of mirror, I’m not saying who’s right, who’s wrong here. Forum is full of opinion, right?

first of all, you based on member of 2 years used, but you don’t know how he fish or how often he uses the reel. I can say my JDM zillion still smooth after a hard year or more of used with a bunch or 4-5lbs. But I use more like power finesse, not frog, punch rig, pulling deep crank.
Junk MM gear. Kind of agree 99% here why I switched more to Daiwa after my bantam MGL acting up trolling and pulling deep crank a few times, and all all Curado 70 become buzzing more on frog setup.

Winding in fight fish, nope we don’t do that, we let the fish pull drag, pull them in with rod then winding kind of slack line. I only winding against the fish just a short burst to get them up on surface when fishing weed. Once the fish up on top, they are nothing but a few lb of meat floating on water. I only see two type of ppl winding the fish, either pro tour or green hand.
Again just IMHO don’t want to disagree with anyone.

It’s all about the price of the US dollar versus the Japanese yen. Right now the yen is about the lowest it has been compared to the dollar for a long time. So if your paying in American dollars you can buy Japanese goods at record low prices. Long story short the bait & tackle monkey is having a heyday with Americans buying record amounts of Japanese tackle.

I hope it doesn't come to an end soon, but it might given the Japanese Government is thinking about joining the rest of the world an start hiking rates to combat inflation.

Yeah some of the items from Japan, I saw on Amazon.com a few weeks ago started to disappear one by one. Seriously I don’t know how long I can resist, almost pull the trigger on Tatula 80 like 10 times. If Amazon has 800S I would have another reel I don’t need by now ???.

The bait monkey has been really gnawing at me with this killer exchange rate.  Already bought a used Valley Hill Raison 67MMM and a Smith Ltd Multiyouse TRMK-564UML.  That's not to mention the 1600C IAR and 2500C I already built out, and a ground up 2500C IAR build that I'm still planning out.

Yes this is ridiculous dangerous for me. I can get away easier with my wife when order from Amazon. Been a prime member even since they started and I ordered most household items from Amazon.
I don’t know how I ended up with Zillion HD, and this telescopic rod. I don’t really need any of these, but thinking I might as well get another 4 pieces rod for just in case ???, it is my birthday month anyway.
