BASS dq’d trey swindle last weekend  for not having proof of $300k insurance on his boat. No points no nothing

MLF has proven they will bend the rules if need be over the years, I don’t think they wanted wheeler to lose AOY on a DQ

it seems odd anyone would be allowed to use two rods at the same time in a fishing tournament to begin with. Kind of bush league

As much as I appreciate the rules in tournaments, and I never would knowingly break any. I do not believe these issues to be malicious or deliberate in nature.  I think it is fine.

I do not even mind the two rod rule in MLF because it is interesting to watch try to get two fish in without letting them touch the carpet ec.

Well MLF is run by the anglers and BASS isn’t. That’s the difference.

If MLF rules didn’t specify they couldn’t use two lines then why would the angler not use it. They literally do this every tournament I watch. Anytime a follower get close to the boat they dip another stick in. I don’t like it but if it’s within the rules then it is what it is. If I were an angler id trust the organizations governing body to do their due diligence on the state rule book too.

If MLF told the anglers two lines was against state regs and therefore not allowed them the anglers should be DQ’d but obviously this isn’t the case.

I think DC is going to take it. He is hooked up as I am typing this, but it should be 7lbs or more in the lead once he has this in with 15 minutes or so to go!

Nothing to see here. Just another boring dropshot tournament.

intense last couple of minutes. They almost got DC, but he was able to pull it off by 4oz. Good for him!

Here’s another nugget of information I was able to gather talking to someone I know here in MN on the subject of even having a pro event at Mille Lacs this time of year. Back in 2015 and 2016, the Elites had back to back AOY championship events there in mid September. The primary reason they have not been back since is that the MN DNR has not granted them a waiver on smallmouth beyond the early September closure of smallmouth here for harvest. In other words, the only way to target smallmouth past Sept 11 this season is to do immediate catch and release. The Elites want to do a weigh in and the DNR has refused to grant that permit to them, or anyone for several years. This is why they allowed the MLF event to even occur here, because their format is immediate catch and release.

Check out rule 7 G, it's pretty clear on the subject.

So if one of Mahome's receivers steps out of bounds tonight before getting the second foot down, it's a catch because he didn't do it deliberately? COME ON MAIN!...

Abolutely not. They'd probably allow that for Brady though.

I am not saying breaking the rules is fine. I am saying the response from MLF is fine with the circumstances they found themselves in.

Kind of like the last Hail Mary pass of the game, everyone is committing pass interference but they never call it. Nobody wants to see the game (or season) end on a penalty

Yeah, I can agree with that. My point is that the rules were there in black and white all along, and for the organization to take the blame, and somehow attempt to spin it into "mea culpa, we didn't do a good job communicating the rules..." is both self serving, and enabling an attitude of not taking responsibility by the actual offenders, or maybe I'm just old... :)

You are absolutely right. I do agree with the fact that they should have known as anglers.

I think a lot of it is saving face right? It is not a good look for Wheeler, or the MLF if he was DQd and lost AOY because of a rule that even the tournament director did not realize.

I think they looked at the quickest way for damage control. Let's take the blame, the anglers will pay their fines, and we will be done with it!

I do wonder though if that rule and issue will delay the return of MLF to MN?

I was actually wondering, and I am still waiting for it....is other anglers from the tournament who did not use two lines coming out and saying they should be DQ'd. What a shift it would be, if Wheeler got Dq'd and JLee was crowned AOY.

Its definitely bush league for TNF this season.

No, I don't.  However, I do question how much revenue an event like this brings to the local economy.  Very few of them stay at a hotel or lodge or resort.  They stay with people they know.  They don't buy any live bait or tackle because their sponsors supply everything.  They don't eat out a whole lot.

Since there's no weigh in, there is very little in terms of a "crowd" either.  Honestly the only revenue to a local business is when they buy gasoline and even that may not bring a whole lot of local business since most gas money doesn't go to the actual retailer selling it.

I know a few guys specifically do local Airbnb's on the lake for every event. Also, there usually is a local restaurant that caters some food for anglers after the days. I am not sure if they did it in this one or not, but I have seen it before.

It is definitely not like the classic or an expo for sure as far as revenue generation.

What it will do though, is show off the lake in an attempt to "lure" people to that fishery. That will increase licenses purchased and some local economy.

Oh I'm aware of that.  The lake has seen a tenfold increase in pressure since those AOY events a few years ago.  Not great if you're an average bass angler like me.  Great if you're a local business though, can't argue that.

David Walker caught a 5-10 smallmouth with 12 minutes left in the tournament.  He took the time to get his marshal to take a photo of the fish.   He then caught 3 more fish with 2 of them in the last 5 minutes.  He finished second by 4 ounces.  I bet he regrets the time spent for the photo.  One more fish would have earned him another $55,000.

He also lost two within the last hour or so of the event.

It would have been a different outcome if he caught those, and perhaps kept his head down and fished like he wanted to win, and not just happy to be there!
