Reel for Conquest 905

What would be a good reel for a conquest 905? it can throw up to 3oz what would be a good reel.  was thinking a metanium dc or a steez ct sv but maybe the steez isn’t big enough.  looking for this to be a heavier but versatile rod.

If using it for bottom contact, you should choose a reel that palms well for you.  I have a 13 concept z on my Poison Glorious XH.  The reel is small/palms well and can hold a good amount of heavy line.  Small framed reels allow me to get all my fingers in front of the trigger for more power and control.

for baits that big with heavier line I would try for a tranx 300. 

 

I have the 400A for musky and pike and its an awesome reel. 

 

the 300 size is slightly smaller but still big enough for heavy line and big baits.

A Calcutta Conquest 200 would do the job. That is a big rod designed for medium swimbaits but I'm sure it could be used for other big baits.

Braid you get by with 200 size reels, FC/Mono 300 size reels.

You like Shimano and they have a good selection of ridged frame reels you need with XH 905 MBR.

I don’t have any experience with that feel.  Is it backlash friendly?

 

i mostly use metanium SC or steez SV or zillion SV because they’re pretty autopilot which i prefer

Yes, the Bantam is pretty easy to dial in. I also Metaniums and an Antares. If you don’t go with a heavier reel, that would be my recommendation.

Convention wisdom will say yes, but why? I think the ct can do it all. Just send it

Personally I’d find a 200-300 size reel for that rod power

Steez A would be my recommendation. A Steez CT on a XH, seems a little off, the Met DC would be a good option.

The Steez A doesn’t have the SV, does that mean it will backlash more easily?

Daiwa on a Shimano rod? Blasphemy! I just got a Conquest 905 and I plan to pair it with a new 22 Bantam. Those things are tanks and are smooth casters. Super versatile too. I’ll report back after time on the water. They also make a Monster Gear version of the Antares DC. I didn’t go there, but it’s an option.

What reel did you end up going with for your conquest 905?

 

I was hesitating between then Antares and the Calcutta conquest. Ultimately went with the calcuta conquest 200 in 7.5:1 gear ratio. Wanted Conquest/Conquest and enjoy it - fun to hold, observe and feel, let alone fish.

 

I use it for Huddlestons and deep heavy jigs. With 50lb braid it can handle big fish in purgatory cover.
