The next few days its going to be overcast/raining. Ive never fished this weather alot but I did pretty good on a dropshot recently but that was when it was sunny. Its been pretty warm this week (around 90's). I fish the lake from shore, it has patches of submerged grass and drops off pretty fast, it is decently clear as well. I dont think the lake has alot of shad or baitfish, I rarely see the bass blowing up and if they do its more like 1 blowup every 5 minutes. Any reccomendations of lures or techniques? Thanks in advance.

I try to target days like this if I'm able to.  Tomorrow is one of those days here.  Rainy/cloudy.  The fish are generally more aggressive with this incoming low pressure so I use faster moving lures.  A drop shot is definitely not what I'd be tossing.

You must be in southern California.  The remnants of Hurricane Kay are moving in there I see.  Beneficial moisture on the way.

It’s all good. Start with your favorite top water; poppers or frog, if windy a buzz bait. When the top water bite stops go weightless Senko.

I’ve never had any luck with top water cause it drops off pretty fast but I’ll give it a shot, thanks for the tip

Throw parallel to shore to keep it in the shallower zone longer.  Also consider that bass will come up a long ways to smack a topwater that has angered them.  Figure at least the water clarity depth, maybe more.

And I fish a buzzbait when its dead still too.  Reel it as slow as will keep it on the surface for that low blop sound.

Try and find places where rain run off is going into the lake and try fishing near them.  You can also try running a bait along where the shallow water drops off into the deep water.

This is a surefire tip in general.    Almost always fish around places like these

That’ll fish fine. I hate to admit this, especially since I recently posted a thread trying to find a great all-purpose jig, but a jig is a jig. You can hop your swim jig along the bottom or swim it or drag it; it doesn’t make much difference whether using a “swim” jig or “casting” jig or whatever. They are all jigs albeit some cover suits some jigs better. But swim jigs are generally pretty versatile.,Only thing I’d be careful of is heavy wood since swim jigs tend to run with lighter weedguard. Pair it up with your favorite flappy style craw or grub bait and you can do a lot with that. It’s just one option.

Maybe there is a place or two that is pulling water then?   Both are fantastic places to catch fish.

Any water coming into the lake will work.  One lake I fish is heavily developed and I fish around the french drains that run down from the houses.

Cast parallel to the bank about 5’ out and work the top water along back to you. Bass cruise the banks during cloudy light rain hunting prey. Make few fan casts to keep them honest.

Perfect weather for a lots of baits, but the first one I throw in the rain is a spinner bait.  Chatterbaits work too, but I can throw a spinnerbait closer to hard cover without snagging up.  You want concentrate on the bank and hard cover like wood, lily stems, pilings or corners of spillways.  In these conditions i dont miss many hits, but a weightless senko on another rod as a follow up or more subtle look can get you a few more fish.

We had rainy and cloudy weather here earlier in the week. I had success on a chatterbait and a swim jig. Right next to where the lake dumps into a little creek. Theres a word for this that's escaping me at the moment. But point is moving water. Right on the edge of submerged grass where i always see forage about, but never caught a bass there until this week.

But I'm still new and learning so this is just what worked for me, not advice.

My favourite fishing days.

Mine as well, mostly because it keeps 99% of the A-holes off the water. The other 1%, that’s me!?
