I've got 2 of them and I don't fish them often anymore, but I usually just casted and reeled them in steadily. The erratic side to side action was decent. I even caught a sizable muskie on it years ago too. The red and white one was the best color. 1 Quote

Drawdown Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 @Glenn that reaper video has me thinking a number of drop shot baits—particularly soft ones (e.g. X-Zone Finesse Slammer, etc.) could be fished the same way, rigged flat side up. Random dialect question: what part of the country does “all’s” come from? I’ve heard you say “all’s you’ve got to do, etc.” a number of times and find it fascinating—have never heard someone from the West Coast talk that way. Though I admit my sample size is somewhat small. Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted September 9, 2022 Super User Posted September 9, 2022 @Glenn There were some of those Slug-o's in my dad's stuff when he died. I'm sure he never used them because he would have thought they were gimmicky. Most likely someone gave him a few. I keep saying I need to use them and keep forgetting to do so. 8 minutes ago, Drawdown said: That’s cool! Glenn’s got about as much twang in him as cream of wheat. When I was in my 20's a group of guys used to go to Rice Lake near Peterborough Ontario. We mostly fished for walleye. The local bait store convinced us the only lure that would catch walleyes was the beno. We believed them after buying some & they definitely worked for fishing the weedlines we were targeting. 2 Quote

I do not have any relatives from Pittsburgh or Texas. But my great grandparents are from Sweden. LOL That said, I've heard some people say there exists a slight, "northwest" accent and/or dialect. Maybe that's it. I guess we say "bagel" differently than everyone else, as in BEGel, not BAYgal. 1 2 Quote

They actually still make a new version of one, I think it’s called the heddon swimming minnow. I don’t know if it’s as good as the original Most people won't remember this but they made them in two sizes. The small one most people used but they also had a one a little bit bigger. I have some of the newer ones that were still called the Bayou Boogie I bought several years ago. While I have used them some I haven't caught anything on them. I guess they are now discontinued. I couldn't find them listed on Heddons website. Quote

Super User WRB Posted September 10, 2022 Super User Posted September 10, 2022 My favorite wooden plug is Smithwick Buck n Brawl, a tail spin surface lure 3” long that can do a lot of tricks. The longer Ma and Pa Scooters were big bass lures. Darters were retrieved like a surface jerk bait, Bass Oreno was simply retrieved about 6’ to 8’ then stop and let float to the surface then repeat, strike occur anytime but usually when just starting the swim.
